Don't know if this will fly, but worth a go. One top five per week from whoever gets in first. Each week will start Saturday (after midnight Friday). No two consecutive top fives from the same person, unless nobody else has posted by the Friday. Choose any subject from Five Best Crisp Flavours to Five Best Odd Box Recordings, or anything else you can think of, then post your personal top five. Links or pictures, where appropriate, welcome. I hadn't really envisaged it like that Kev, more along the lines Cavey outlined, but if people want to go in that direction, doesn't bother me. Think it might work better to list top fives in reverse order, then we can all read them while singing the Alan 'Fluff' Freeman Pick Of The Pops music. |

All comments on others top fives should be welcomed, so if you want to include an alternative top five in your comments, then please do so. I see it like the classics and new bands threads, only weekly. |

OK. Well consider my alternate list as a comment on yours then! |

I might be missing something, but wouldn't it be easier and more fun to just say 'What are your top 5 Joe Meek songs'? I don't really understand the point of limiting it to one person, or making it weekly. |

The rules of this thread appear to have been devised as a tribute to the transparency of Bov's World Cups. |

Well my vote goes to picking one subject a week - the person who picks it puts their top five - and then the thread is limited to that subject for the week. Be it comments, anecdotes or alternate top fives on the same subject. Does that sound like a sensible plan? And it was pretty difficult to pick a top 5 - I flipping love that Heinz track. Partly because I knew it as a kid and then rediscovered it about 20 years later - and Have I The Right is just a great pop song. Plus I like the fact that instead of drums for the chorus he got everyone to go out and stamp on the wooden stairs. That kind of technique or thinking wasn't used much back then. And Telstar's a no-brainer for me. Still sounds like it's being beamed down from space. I could have thrown in something by The Riot Squad. Was he at the helm for I Take It That We're Through? Another contender. |

I like Kev's idea of a weekly top 5. Make sure to start a new thread for each one to save wading through old ones. And the person who set one up in week 1 not only can't post another top 5 starter in week 2 but must also give others a day's head start in week 3. Otherwise you two will just hog them between you... :p |
