I doubt this thread will take off, but the "Unlikely fans of good music" one occasionally gets used.

We managed to bag a face-to-face interview with Wayne Kramer last Thursday.

Wayne Kramer is officially a fan of Skrillax. I have it on tape.

I mentioned this fact to Nat who runs Sonic Cathedral and he came out with the reply which I think says it all.

"You've ruined everything."

At a Bo Diddley gig at the Astoria sometime in the 90s, he halfway through a song, whilst the drummer and bassist kept a beat proclaimed "Let's hear for Chuck Berry", the crowd whooped and hollered; Bo continued "Let's hear it for..." followed by a succession of rock & roll and rhythm & blues legends, each time getting the same positive response from the crowd. The routine died a death when "Let's hear it for Elton John" was met with not so much as a tumbling tumble-weed.

Also at a festival in, I think, Switzerland, a friend of mine got to meet Screamin' Jay Hawkins and asked what he thought of the current young bands. Screamin' Jay, if I remember rightly, cited Billy Joel as his current favourite.

Oh dear. Perhaps it's best not to ask questions like this then.

He mentioned a couple of other acts who I thought were a bit dubious, but lots of good stuff too. I can't remember it all now. We should have it all transcribed and online in the next couple of days. The audio is a bit poor quality to post.

Karla's got the interview transcribed if you wanted to let Brother Wayne redeem himself. The recent performance of Kick Out The Jams here is one of the best I've ever seen too.
