It's that ludicrous time of year where we glance over a list of albums compiled by a mysterious bunch of odd bods and go 'eh?' So, which albums should be nominated? |

Spiritualized... EDIT: Actually I think this might have been released too early, not sure. |

Oh - actually, I've already decided that they'll give it to Bowie. |

...and as they always include a new band in the list I'll predict this year's to be Peace. |

Well I buggered up that last prediction anyway. The list: Arctic Monkeys: AM David Bowie: The Next Day Disclosure: Settle Foals: Holy Fire Jake Bugg: Jake Bugg James Blake: Overgrown Jon Hopkins: Immunity Laura Marling: Once I Was an Eagle Laura Mvula: Sing to the Moon Rudimental: Home Savages: Silence Yourself Villagers: Awayland It's rarely the bands I'd choose, but there's something about this year's list which just makes it seem incredibly dull compared to normal. |

I like the Savages album but I'm never going to love it because it just feels like calculated nostalgia; the production giving it the acceptable amount of abrasion for middle class 6Music listeners. Champagne Holocaust should have been nominated and it should have won. Just imagine a world where that would happen - It would be amazing. |

Bowie will win and that in itself is a sorry comment on music in 2013. |

Of all the "indie" bands hyped by NME and so on at the start of the year (Swim Deep, Palma Violets, Savages) their album is best. Really surprised by it. Not really a bad song there! |

The only one I've heard in full is the Jake Bugg record. I downloaded on recommendation from a friend. He said it sounds a bit like Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash. Errr right! I f**king hated it. ![]() I do like the sound of Rudimental though, so I might give that one a shot. |

Yeah several of those bands ae non UK (Sad day For Puppets, Harper Simon, Elephant Stone) it was just a list of good albums out this year. I could very easily find a link to some hack raving about Peace! The fact is I like them and think their album is great. I can't change that! |

How did the Monkeys get nominated? Their album came out about 3 days ago didn't it? Mental. Sounds pretty good on first listen but... still. I'm familiar with surprisingly large amount of these: Bowie - Pretty good actually. Although only really notable because of it being Bowie/context etc. Bugg - I actually think Jake Bugg's pretty decent to be honest. He's pretty fucking good for an 18-year-old. Think his early success will do for him though. Blake - Disappointing. Marling - Didn't really like this one. Sounds like she's trying too hard to be a bit cold and sassy. Not really her style. Savages - Really, really good record. Sags a bit in the middle but there's a lot of belting stuff on it. Bit style over substance in places mind. Villagers - Overwrought rubbish. Just like his first record. All in all, there's not a lot to get excited about really. As with every year. |
