Just listening to Mark Radcliffe and got to wondering, why there is such a disparity between his performance on t'wireless and his infrequent jaunts on to the small screen? Is the disorientated scarecrow sat on a log at Glastonbury, stuttering his way through a bewildering anecdote, really the same bloke who sounds happy as a pig in mud on 6 music?

This strange phenomena has also engulfed Simon Mayo who appears to turn into a wooden object (sideboard, rocking chair, whatever you like really) as soon as the camera points his way, and even Danny Baker (when on presenting duties at least)

Any further examples?

Does it work in reverse too?

I've always thought Radcliffe is good on TV! I think the slightly less prepared nature of is presenting is down to the slightly less predictable nature of that show.

When he presented The White Room and Pop Upstairs Downstairs he was fine!

Spot on about Danny Baker. I'd go as far as to name him the best (non music) radio presenter but stick him on a TV show, either in front of the camera or just as a voiceover, and he goes to poo. I think it's because he's the master of the ad libbed verbal ramble and TV doesn't really allow that.

Danny Baker's been shit on TV more times than I care to remember, that recent classic albums show on BBC4 was particularly dismal, but, having said that his chat show Danny Baker After All, after a very weak start, improved massively, at least with regards to the interviews. The interviews with Eric Sykes and Rick Wakeman, were particularly good, not least because Baker allowed them both to speak without too much interuption. I also enjoyed the 10 minute TV Heroes programs.

I didn't speak in that TV appearance and it only lasted about 2 seconds! My appearance on the BBC news at ten was much longer (well, a few seconds longer and included speech) and a much better representation of my TV skills!
