I'm just stunned. Been listening to The Velvet Underground since I was 17. I've flirted with Lou solo too, but it's The Velvets I really love. Gutted. |

Hard to know whether it's a hoax or not at the moment. Rolling Stone is running with the story but no-one else has picked it up.... |

An absolute legend of song craft, lyric and delivery. One of the all time, true greats. R.I.P |

No hoax. NME are running it too. Big loss. He had a liver transplant in the summer though, so he wasn't well. RIP legend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hugY9CwhfzE |

Lots of musicians go to extremes, but usually it's always the same extreme. What was almost unique about Lou and particularly The Velvet Underground was that they were able to play and write songs that went to all sorts of extremes, from the most tender beauty to the most visceral harshness, to the most darkly humourous and be absolutely brilliant whatever they were expressing. A true legend. R.I.P. |

I don't mean this in any way humerous or whatever - but I find it kind of fitting that he died on Sunday morning (US time anyway). Hopefully his passing was as peaceful as the song. The more I've been listening to new bands tonight (planning ahead for stuff this week) the more I'm hearing VU in just about everything... |

Lou died and the heavens opened up and threw trees at my house and cut my power and left me trapped at home with candles and cards. What a man. |

It's just someone trying to cash-in on someone's death. Pretty horrific really. On The Sound Of Confusion's Facebook page I actually asked people to give a "like" for Lou being a legend, not for his death. So plenty of people did that. I suppose it's a bit like how they have a round of applause at some football matches now (like when George Best died) instead of the minute's silence. I was asking for likes as a mark or respect, not "yay he's dead!" |

Especially disappointed in Louder Than War and their transparent "sad to be the first UK website to announce the death of Lou Reed." tweets after linking to the Rolling Stone article. It's a decent site but really... They've got form in the Internet ghoul game. They've wrongly reported music deaths on at least couple of occasions, trawling for hits. Harrumph. |
