Can anybody (and I suspect I actually mean Milchy) recommend a decent retro looking jukebox that plays CDs? And what sort of cost are we talking about for either that or a vintage one that doesn't necessarily work but looks great (if the latter, it'd just be a talking piece in a cafe)? |

My local had a great vintage looking Jukebox that played CDs. I wish I could remember the make or go and have a look - but it left with previous owners. It was top quality though and brand new - so they're available at least. I have a feeling we're talking 2-3 grand for a new one. |

Sorry, I don't really know anything about CD jukeboxes. |

Most unrestored boxes are bought by specialists for the purpose of restoration and resale, but this shop does both new CD jukeboxes as well as restored and unrestored originals. They don't have prices on their website, but you can phone for a quote. I've never dealt with them, so can't give a recommendation. |

There's a couple of places in Sheff. The Juke Joint one appears to do retro CD-juke box, but its site is a bit grim to naviagate. |

I plan on building a digital jukebox this year due to the sheer number of flac files I have these days - I can hear Milchy tutting now. It's on my list of things to do. I fancy a go at although not yet decided which route to go. Has anyone had a go? Back to the thread - What are you after one for Bovine? |

Nice one! Good luck - but get something that works, that would be best! |

Still scouting locations but London, even South London these days, is doubtful for cost reasons. A top area, that could be successful as it has local appeal plus lots of other attractions for tourists or other Londoners, like Greenwich or Crystal Palace, would cost £30k pa for rent and rates. That's for a tiny shop, no accommodation. So I'd need to live elsewhere, paying further rates and mortgage. It can't work. So I'd need to own the shop and it would need to have 2-3 bed accommodation above to keep rates lower and not have rent. I can't do that in London so that means downsizing, out of London. Location out of London would have to be southern and have train station (for ease of reach to Poole and London) and be touristy but not too expensive so no Whitstable, Brighton, Lewes, Bridport or Broadstairs but maybe, Poole, Deal, Ramsgate, Shoreham, Weymouth, West Worthing, etc. Need to be paid off by work first and do 2 or 3 years more outside to see son though college. It's probably a 4 year project and would only get fast tracked if I got laid off from my current job and couldn't find another one. |

Top plan. I assume something like this is your aim: or this (though it's books rather than records). |

Yep. Records on their own is too risky so needs another angle to get cash in |

Does it have to be a CD one for what you intend to use it for? I mean what with the ever increasing fetishisation of vinyl (and all things vintage) I would imagine going to a gaff with an actual working jukebox stuffed full of 45s could be quite the draw. The downside is you'd be limited to 100 45s tops (not sure if there's jukeboxes with 200 45s/400 selections from memory) you could put in it which isn't logistically the most exciting thing in the world but, y'know... The classic ones from the 1950s (and even 60s) will be very expensive, but there's some less vintage-y models from the 1970s onwards which I imagine aren't that dear. (This is all from memory mind, could be wrong). |

Morning Westie It's more for show than use to be honest, as with it being a record shop I'd rather be in control of what's being played at all times, for those High Fidelity Beta Band moments (cool track plays in shop, punter goes "what's this?"). Obviously pack the jukebox with comps and you're halfway there but... |
