Excellent thread Kev. Presume you want two good bands of the same name, so we're discounting the likes of The Monks a great band with a shit namesake. The most unlikely name I've come across to be used by two bands is Art Phag, originally the name of grunge punk band from Flint, Michigan and now used by a really lame dance act. Sure there must be lots of candidates for this thread. The Outcasts Excellent Texan garage band from the 60s. One of a dozen bands called The Outcasts listed on the Ugly Things garage compilation database. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkfnzTL0bko The Outcasts Belfast punks formed in 1977. Made the great Just Another Teenage Rebel 45 for the Good Vibrations label. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWADHZBb48A The Upsetters Band formed by Little Richard in 1954, went on to record in their own right for the Vee Jay label whilst Little Richard was undergoing his first bout of religious mania. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1Zx3h53FkY The Upsetters Lee Perry's legendary house band. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqrHlzVDhJc The Avengers 60s garage band from bakersfield California best known for Be A Cavemen. One of eleven bands of that name listed on Ugly Things. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qA04Y3iywQ The Avengers Punk band from San Francisco formed in 1977. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9JKKnQVpKA The Leopards Vocal group, made one of the all time great poultry records Mah Mah Chicken Pot Pie in 1963. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKSxOlGZMS4 The Leopards Undeservedly overlooked post punk band. Released their only record in 1979. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlhdVQFkvW0 Soul Sisters Soul vocal group, recorded for the legendary Sue label. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5cQ3LPc3fU Soul Sisters Reggae vocal group that included the great Nora Dean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DJubf9y45g |

Yeah - I was doing it as a "top 5" not just a "name 5" - so I picked bands that I like, then kind of combined the two shared names to give an average mental rating and listed them in that order. Highly scientific. Like there was an average (if that) '70s rock band called Blue and a boyband called Blue. They didn't make the grade. Thinking about it, I saw a band called Blew once, but I suppose they don't count as the words mean different things. I did allow different spellings of Tornadoes, but they meant the same thing really. Ah - I've just looked up Blew because I was sure they changed their name and had some form of success. I was thinking it was Thirteen Senses, but it was another very similar sounding band from Cornwall - Haven. Dented the charts a bit. A few in your list I don't know! |

Thought people would be queueing up with ideas for this one, but as it looks like just me & Kev, here's a few more. The Purple Hearts Great Australian band formed in Brisbane in 1964. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VnREl-qtpM The Purple Hearts British mod revival band. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKKbg4I_-nw The Zodiacs R&B vocal group, started life as The Gladiolas, then became the Zodiacs under which name they released the classic 45 T Town, before finally settling on Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs and releasing several fine records. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lYdwnekAzg The Zodiacs Ska group did the immensely fine 45 Renegade http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOdooYy_mIs The Sonics Minnesota rock & roll merchants did the 1959 single Minus One-Blast Off http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjuE0AZ_ASQ The Sonics Tacoma, Washington legends. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-_0V0IXEkc The Models LA girl group, recorded the best version ever of Bend Me Shape Me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bHlCXMnoxA The Models UK punk band whose line-up included a pre- Adam & The Ants Marco Pirroni http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1A1kvVtRbY |

The Purple Hearts were a bit of a glaring omission on my part actually! Both quite well known bands. |
