In these days of a Parliament full of cynical opportunists it is sad to see a true Parliamentarian, fine debater and man with a genuine belief in democracy pass away. No doubt, as with Bob Crow's passing, his foes will now be full of a praise for him, whilst continuing to undermine the justice, equality and democracy he stood for. R.I.P. |

Just remembered that Stuart Hall died last month as well. 3 giants of The Left all gone within weeks of each other. Sad stuff. |

He was a truly wonderful and inspirational man, largely responsible for my interest in politics. I was weak at the knees when I finally met him a few years ago; a few seconds of conversation later and the nerves were replaced with passion and optimism. He was that kind of person. In tribute, his “Commonwealth of Britain Bill” should get a primetime public broadcast. |

I loved Tony, everything about him - and I will always be grateful for his true concern for the rights of women. He was kind, honest and driven - my favourite qualities in a person - oh and I loved his voice and the way he smoked a pipe  I'll miss you Tony. Very sad news. I've been fascinated by the coverage of his life as I knew a fair amount about him from the 80s onwards, but was more sketchy on his past. |

God rest his gentle soul. I had the privilege of attending a talk he gave and he spoke with a few of us afterwards. Unlike many middle class socialists who tend to be a tad wary and uncomfortable around those who aren't like them - he wasn't. |
