Bands whose regular line-up includes an instrument not normally found in their chosen genre. Only groups who use a particular instrument regularly, so not ones who brought in a cor anglais player for one particular recording or ones where the guitarist played sitar on a couple of songs in 1968. I'm also discounting groups who are so far left field that they eschew traditional instruments altogether. My anorak leanings are so lean, I could only come up with The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra's propensity towards bin-lids. Can we have songs you love by bands you usually hate instead? |

Isn't it a bit conventional to think of instruments having a particular genre? I don't agree that viola is not rock, since the great Neil Walsh sports a mean one (but I would accept that viola players wouldn't get a gig before the VU). And where does a mellotron sit? Anyway, here is my tu'pennyworth: Clinic use a Philips Philicordia, which is just a type of organ but very unusual. The United States of America used electric harpsichord, calliope and ring modulator, among other things. |
