In the form of this list: http://www.nme.com/photos/46-quality-in ... 345815/1/1 who'd you add? |

I was looking through that yesterday and sadly knew them all (indeed 90% were covered on here at the time) but I genuinely can't imagine listening to many of them now. Having said that I still wish Ludes had stuck around because they were pwopah local sarf London monkeys (Penge/Beckenham/Camberwell/Brixton). The funny thing is most current NME readers would probably see that list online (they wouldn't buy the paper, nobody does) and say "Of course I don't know them, I was still at junior school, grandad!" |

I'd say 2/3 of that list stands up now to be honest. Probably worth rediscovering some of it. Round then, most of the music I was listening to came from these shores. Fast forward 10 years and I barely listen to any British bands. Can barely think of any I genuinely love these days. Weird ennit. |

Blimey, my old band played with about a half dozen of 'em... I do still occasionally listen to Harrisons and, more often, The Long Blondes. However, I mostly listen to Prog these days, like any other self-respecting, middle-aged man. Oh, and hello, long time no see, etc! |

I'd virtually stopped going to see UK bands during this period. This list seems to confirm the soundness of my judgement. The few UK based exceptions worth leaving the house for at this time were, for me, Country Teasers (who'd already been going since the mid 90s), The London Dirthole Company, Manic Cough, Snow White and, at the risk of inflating the ego of a certain contributor to this forum, The Bridge Gang. Of those on the NME list, I liked early Long Blondes, but thought they never reached their potential and liked the spirit of Selfish Cunt, if not their music. Expect there were one or two other good British bands in the first decade of this century, but I can't be bothered to think about it any more. |

Well personally I loved Long Blondes but from that list it's Dogs that stand out - dreadful name but I thought they were great |

Add The A-Lines to my little list of the best UK bands of the decade. |

Dogs were great live, Jim, I agree, though not sure the recorded music is great evidence. And hiya Thee SPC - good to hear you're still out there, in the wilds of Cheshire. Give my regards to Tiffin. ![]() |

Anyone listened to Up The Bracket by The Libertines recently? I gave it a spin a few months back and it's still bloody great. |
