I, Ludicrous is a two piece popular music ensemble formed in London in 1986 by John Procter and Will Hung. John and Will had become confederates whilst working for Finsbury Data Services filling the dull days of clerking by amusing each other with jokes, anecdotes, fall lyrics and nasty comments about their colleagues. A homemade 4 track cassette somehow found its way into the mits of Mark E Smith who - without telling them - promptly booked them to support The Fall at a top London venue. The band achieved immortality the following year when their seminal release ‘Preposterous Tales’ reached the dizzy heights of number 11 in John Peel's Festive 50.

In February of this year they released a marvellous 5 track EP; on that EP was a song called The Ruby Wax Song. Ruby Wax heard this song and made this exclamation on her blog: “I can’t believe that my whole life has been summed up in a song!!”

Their best-of entitled ’20 Years In Show Business’ is out now on Sanctuary Recordings.

Shimmy Rivers and and Canal have been making Londoner’s pulses racing faster and faster every time they play. Their bassist dresses like a bear and they produce more energy than a breakers yard on fire.

Their last single on White Heat was single of the month in Plan B.

The Canadian based band The Creeping Nobodies are over here on tour and we’re very pleased they’re playing a gig with us! They listen to Electrelane, Oneida, Damo Suzuki and The Fall amongst others and are very good indeed.

The kRaZy Canucks who were first on the bill twice fused the entire building... Good night though - didn't get home till 1am courtesy of my chauffeur, Anarchy, so God* knows what time the 'tasched one managed to stroll in. Shocking hangover today but not surprising as I'd had 3 pints already by 5.30. No idea what the final count was.

How was your gig, Tom?

It went very well thanks. No sound man due to an emergency he had but two members of bands playing stepped in. The Arndales reminded me of Fonda 500 whilst Pete Green, who I see is playing Vodka V's gig on 5th November, was as great and as witty as ever.

Pocketbooks were superb. No longer a twee shambles we used to see but a fully polished outfit on top of their indie pop game. Sarandon certainly killed twee pop last night being very loud. Sadly we ran late because of the sound man problems so I had to head off to the commuter belt before they finished. A great night. A shame we clashed so lets check the diary next time.
