Southend was never that violent when I was growing up there. I never felt unsafe late at night or anything and I used to work in a (really cheesy awful) late night bar/club so would have to travel home at prime drunken lout time. I go back infrequently now and it's just a bit depressing really. All my friends live in Rayleigh or Leigh-on-Sea and don't really venture into Southend unless they work there. Still go to the Pink Toothbrush when I'm back and hang out with the kids! I've just got so many happy drunken memories from there. |
