The Monroe Transfer's music is big and bold, confident and complex; it relies little on repetition and quiet-loud-quiet dynamics, and is all the more stirring for its reluctance to adhere to tried-and-tested formulas. Arrangements are executed by a plethora of instruments, traditional and absolutely not: violins are employed with the same care and attention to detail as screwdrivers and mallets, and the band’s percussion section is forceful and direct. Listening to the Monroe Transfer is like falling down Alice's rabbit hole - there's no telling where the music will lead.
HOUNDSTEETH
Think White Light-White Heat era Velvet Underground. Now – stop thinking. This is a very rare performance from these reclusive underground stars – not to be missed.
PSEUDONICS
The Pseudonics are what happens when the Pacific North West collides with the South East of England. Mixing influences as diverse as Lydia Lunch, Bertolt Brecht and Broadway, they regurtitate them all to make a punkpop brew with the perverse whiff of soiled gusset, godless sincerity, and a drolery the envy of many a panto dame. Fronted by an exhibitionist all-round nutjob, they offer the kind of entertainment usually only reserved for behind peeling doors in the recesses of dimly lit alleyways in Old Soho.
