This month we’re fortunate to be welcoming Simon Armitage to the King’s Cross Social Club decks. Simon’s poetry opened up the world of Larkin, Hughes and consequently Plath to me as a youth so I’m overjoyed to have him DJ. Simon has exquisite taste in post-punk and new wave, so get ready to hit the dancefloor.

I’ve got loads of indiepop to play which I didn’t get the chance to spin last month so you can expect to hear the likes of The June Brides, Belle and Sebastian, Felt and Hefner. It’s free before 10pm too this month which, can you believe, is our 2nd birthday. Hooray!

What would you like to hear? If you could post your requests on the Facebook event, that would be grand. Seriously, go crazy right here http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=152837071453190

We’re slowly migrating from our old group to the shiny, brand new and so much better in everyway (hmm…) Facebook page. I’ll keep the old group open for as long as possible but please do switch over as there are around 600 of you who haven’t done so already. Yikes.

It’s almost July and for our next night we’ve got the Queen of indiepop Amelia Fletcher guest DJing! Amelia has been in some of the great indie bands since the 80s, the legendary Talulah Gosh, Sarah Records favourites Heavenly and now Tender Trap so I’m overjoyed to be welcoming her to the night. She’ll be DJing between 10:30pm and midnight where she’ll be playing a girl group heavy set!

If you would like to become a member in time for the night please send me your full name. Your card will be ready for you to use at Scared To Dance and you’ll get in for the discounted entry price of £3. If you’d like your friends to become members, I’ll need their email address too.

What would you like to hear on the night? Please send in your requests as I love to get in as many as possible.

We’re welcoming Standard Fare from Sheffield to the decks of King’s Cross Social Club this month. The band released one of my favourite albums of last year so I personally can’t wait to hear what they’re going to play in this rare DJ set.

To mark its 25th anniversary this year, I’ll be playing Felt’s classic 1986 album Forever Breathes the Lonely Word in its entirety from 9pm.

Come and dance to the poppiest indiepop, angular post-punk and stylish new wave!

We’re going to be trying out a new venue at The Albany right slap bang opposite Great Portland Street underground station. The night will run as usual from 9pm to 2am.

Gideon Coe from 6 Music will be DJing for us. As any of you who have listened to his show will testify, Gideon has superb taste so I’m thrilled to be welcoming him to Scared To Dance. The Sony award winner lists Sandinista! by The Clash and Power, Corruption and Lies from New Order as two of his records he couldn’t live without, which is alright by us.

I feel like dancing on my own, where no one knows me and where I can cause offence just by the way I look

Which can only mean one thing… Scared To Dance returns to King’s Cross Social Club on Saturday night! What would you like to hear?

Doors open at 9pm when I’ll be playing Felt’s classic album Forever Breathes the Lonely Word in its entirety to mark its 25th anniversary. It would be great to see a few more people down early as it can often be one of my favourite parts of the night seeing everyone catching up since our last night!

We’ll be giving out free mix CDs to the first 25 people through the door. This will be our third compilation and it’s a mix I’ve put together consisting of the best of 2011 so far featuring the likes of Veronica Falls, The Wave Pictures, Acid House Kings and Butcher Boy.

You can get into the club for just £3 by applying for membership. Simply email us at admin@scaredtodance.co.uk before 5pm on Saturday.

Hopefully see you on Saturday!

There's a club if you'd like to go, you could meet someone who really loves you

Oh Moz… Saturday is our big night with the launch of our new bi-monthly home The Albany! After months and months of planning I think I’ve found the perfect venue for Scared To Dance. 6 Music’s Gideon Coe will be joining us as our guest DJ. As anyone who has listened to his show over the years, he has impeccable taste which is going to fit in perfectly with the night!

Gideon would like to hear your requests, and I would to, so please send them in via email to admin@scaredtodance.co.uk or post them at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=270956519586487

If you haven’t been to The Albany before, it’s right opposite Great Portland Street tube station. You can catch pretty much any night bus from Oxford Street afterwards which is a short walk away. Perfect!

If you would like to get in for the discounted price of £3 you can get yourself a membership card for absolutely free. All you need to do is send me your full name and it’ll be ready for you to pick up on the night. Why not get your friends one whilst you’re at it too!

Hopefully see you on Saturday!

Darren Hayman returns to the Scared To Dance decks for our Hefner special! You name your favourite Hefner songs and I'll play them throughout the night. From "The Hymn for the Cigarettes" to "Good Fruit" and "Painting and Kissing" to "The Day That Thatcher Dies" we'll play all of their best moments. We'll also be playing some of Darren's solo material and The French.

After our fantastic first night at The Albany we’ll be doing it all over again for a second month. Niklas Angergård from Acid House Kings will be coming all the way from Sweden to DJ for us. The band have released my favourite album of 2011 with Music Sounds Better With You so I’m over the moon to have Niklas DJ. He’s a big Sarah and Creation Records fan and you can expect the likes of The Orchids, The Field Mice, Felt and of course The Smiths.

In keeping with the Swedish theme, we’ll be projecting Lasse Hallström’s My Life as a Dog.
