Laymar Still scraping the mud off their boots after playing at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, Laymar return to Manchester to headline this night along with The Airstrip One. Something of a re-union for these bands as the last time they played Manchester they supported New York avant-garde super group Battles. Laymar are a long standing electronically infused guitar band well known for their dark, melodic, atmospheric, post rock soundscapes. Imagine what Sigur Ros would sound like if they had been brought up under the shadows of dark satanic mills rather than their silent, frozen Icelandic locale. A soundtrack to an alien abduction. The Airstrip One – take the grandiose melodic beauty of Explosions in The Sky and Mogwai and then compose songs that you can sing along to. The Airstrip One create songs of melody based on a creative belief that all great bands should have great songs. Grand Canyon (Experimental/Rock/Zouk) – Huge post rock sounds with subtle effects and melodies that kick you in the face. Cyril Sneer - DJ or band/band or DJ. Come along and find out. Tickets, £5.00, from the usual agencies or the bands themselves. Doors 7.30pm Manchester Academy 4, Oxford Rd, Manchester |
