Kandinsky (France) - Politburo - Cats in Paris Kandinsky (France) on a short UK tour this young duo from Lyon, play experimental/jazz/noise because they love it and the freedom it gives them to express themselves. Jeremy (guitar) and Frank (drums) started this "project" last year in order to escape from musical boundaries they used to be locked in. It could sound like The Flying Luttenbachers who met Ex Models....both of them are influenced by the music of Orthrelm, Sonic Youth, US Maple, Ornette Coleman and Charles Mingus, to name a few. Most of their live sets can be total improv..or tight composed tunes…..it depends on the mood…..we'll see. ( www.myspace.com/chefouichef) Politburo Indie/alternative/new wave Are one of Manchester’s finest and well respected indie/alternative bands. When it comes to spotting talent Manchestermusic.com know a thing or two and invited Politburo to release an EP/single through their own Soviet Union record label and this became available just a few short weeks ago. Expect to hear twisted, portentous poetry powerfully delivered in an Iggy Pop/pre Joy Division style from a band that has its roots firmly planted in Manchester’s gritty musical Northern Quarter. The EP titled “The Oldest Empire” is now available from the band, mail order and Piccadilly Records – buy it and be well pleased that you did. () Cats in Paris These cool kittens play instrumentals and by quoting Sufjan Stevens, Boards of Canada, Animal Collective, Tortoise, Do Make Say Think and A Silver Mt. Zion as their influences, logic would have us describe them as a post-rock band. But these Cats play their instrumentals with a hardcore experimental folk slant and it’s absolutely gorgeous. () The Saki Bar is close to Manchester’s famous ‘curry mile’ and stays open until late. A balcony offers smokers and non smokers alike an opportunity to enjoy a quiet moment with views over Whitworth Park. ~~~WotGodForgot Promotions~~~ () |

The Lightshines have been added to this gig. They play dreamy, spaced-out, lo-fi, psychelic rock. Imagine what Black Rebel Motorcycle Club would sound like had they grown up amidst tranquil Eastern Temples. “The Beatles ‘Within You Without You’ via Spaceman 3….like a sundazed accountsic Spiritualized” –ManchesterMusic.com. <Demo Review> “Absorbing, trance inducing and geared to the mind’s back doors and windows,it also spans a fair sized chunk of time. For an epic, it’s beautifully unassuming. It’s a lovely record” – Guru Magazine Have a listen at |
