Post subject: | FRIDAY 11TH APRIL - A HAWK AND A HACKSAW + BENJAMIN WETHERI |
Friday April 11th 2008 The Yorkshire House, 2 Parliament Street, Lancaster, LA1 1DB. Doors 8pm, Entry £6 Advance Tickets: http://www.wegottickets.com/location/LAWM LAWM presents the fantastic A Hawk and a Hacksaw! One of our highlights of 2008...and tickets selling fast... A HAWK AND A HACKSAW (USA) LAWM presents the mighty A HAWK AND A HACKSAW - occasional collaborators with BEIRUT and featuring Jeremy Barnes of Neutral Milk Hotel - who take a one night break from supporting PORTISHEAD, popping into Lancaster. Hailing from New Mexico, USA but drawing upon the Eastern European diaspora AHAAH can perhaps be best described as one wonderful journey into gypsy folk charting a not dissimilar path to bands such as Beirut, Calexico and Vialka. Playing as a four piece tonight their sound is a fantastical and emotive mix of East European folk, Gypsy song, Klezmer, Mexican fanfare and gorgeous cinematic flourishes, with pockets of classic song-writing. A unique chance to catch them at our great little venue in Lancaster. http://www.myspace.com/ahawkandahacksaw BENJAMIN WETHERILL With a Coward-esque warble and a precise and deliberate manner Benjamin Wetherill cuts an unusual figure amongst his song-writing contemporaries, performing a romantic blend of darkened, spidery arch-folk and pre-war-swoon material. From folk crowds to indie and experimental audiences, over the past four years Benjamin has wooed listeners and made an ineffable impression on theUK underground music and festival scene through a constant performance schedule and numerous, independently released recordings. http://www.myspace.com/benjaminwetherill BALKANIC ERUPTION Balkanic Eruption are a brilliant local 7 piece band specialising in eastern european folk styles and will be the perfect kick off to the night. This is their second and well deserved LAWM appearance within a matter of months.. http://www.myspace.com/thebalkanicsband |
