LAST HARBOUR (Manchester, Little Red Rabbit Collective)

Last Harbour are a Manchester collective playing rustic, cinematically atmospheric songs that rattle and loom, at once epic and intimate, harsh and beautiful. Using instrumentation that might traditionally be associated with folk music, the band instead hammer and sculpt their music into unusual and beguiling forms. This is music with a strong emotional content, both bitter and beautiful.

The band effectively operate as a collective of like-minded musicians, all of whom are involved in other artistic work including music, photography, film-making and recording. There have been several Last Harbour records to date, all of them highly acclaimed.

PLAN B : “Great chasmic dramas hide within the swooning dustbowl rumbles of these songs, blackly turbulent like 16 Horsepower or Lift To Experience, with a Wild West baroque feel akin to Okkervil River.”

LONDON TOUR DATES : “A brooding, country-noir masterpiece.”

UNCUT : "Well worth investigating."

DROWNED IN SOUND : "Bewitching."

TERRORIZER : “Occasionally witty, always elegant, Last Harbour is for the discerning ear.”

BIG ISSUE : “Like taking a drunken waltz through a candlelit room, Last Harbour delight in all that is nocturnal and sinister.”

CITY LIFE : "Gorgeous gothic fairy-tales."

WHAT'S ON IN LONDON : "The sheer beauty of Last Harbour's songs is hugely uplifting... equals the best of Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris, or Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood. Magical."

Last Harbour played the 2nd ever OoR back in April 08 and make a welcome return.

NEW ZEALAND STORY
A new Lancaster band featuring ex-Supekings David Wright. Citing Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds,
Paul Simon, Crowded House, Andrew Bird, Pavement, Pulp, Tom Waits, Talking Heads, The Decemberists, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Magnetic Fields, Bruce Springsteen, the Tenmen as influences. Sounds good to me.

"One song, with the refrain ‘That’s just how I roll’ showed they could vary the tempo within a song and maintain their fluidity and tautness...Their own songs showed craft and touches of wit, but the highlight of the first set was a soulful, passionate cover of Tom Waits’ ‘Way Down In The Hole’ "
The Lunecy Review, March 09
