Of Tune-Yards the Observer says "No record thrummed with as much warmth, humour and invention this year as the debut by New England native Merrill "tUnE-YaRdS" Garbus, which was assembled on her laptop from scratchy recordings. The source material might have been voguish scuffed anti-folk, African-style pop, pastoral electronica but these 13 tracks remain alive to the stink and clatter of their influences, so that the effect is of being led by the hand through a miraculous musical landscape.
