Film Screening: In Search of Blind Joe Death - The Saga of John Fahey
We are delighted to be teaming up with Leeds International film festival once again to present you with the UK premier of In Search of Blind Joe Death – The Saga of John Fahey. John Fahey has reached mythical status since his death in February 2001. The myths about the man where largely due to the fact that he was a master conjurer during his lifetime. He self released his first record under the name of Blind Joe Death combining his overwhelmingly competent finger style with a name that would project an image of a ‘genuine’ bluesmen that he dedicated so much of his time an energy to. The fact that he got away with this simultaneously opens ones eyes to silly prejudices and is a testament to his musicianship. Musicians from almost all genres credit this guy, its no wonder he has been crowed as the father of American Primitive. This film promises to shed light on the myth but will undoubtedly create more.
The evening’s entertainment will include live performances of two generations of Fahey disciples: Steffen Basho-Junghans & Cam Deas
