Fortuna POP! presents ALLO DARLIN' With special guests AMOR DE DIAS Thursday 31st October, Doors 7pm Islington Assembly Hall Upper Street, Islington, London N1 2UD Nearest Underground: Angel / Highbury & Islington Tel : 0207 527 8900 Web: http://www.islington.gov.uk/assemblyhall Advance: £12.50 from We Got Tickets / £15 Door http://www.wegottickets.com/event/228357 ALLO DARLIN' Allo Darlin' are many things. They can turn a room in a famous punk venue into a joyous, jumping, sweaty, pop-mosh pit. Or bring a room of 500 to hushed silence with the few strums of a ukulele and a love song about cooking. In their brief lifetime they have toured the USA four times, sold out tours across the UK and embarked on an epic five-week European tour. The band have also been strongly supported by BBC 6music, recording several sessions including one at the BBC’s prestigious Maida Vale Studios. Their self-titled debut was released to universal acclaim in 2010 with plaudits including being named No. 2 record of the year by online retailer eMusic, and a glowing 1,200 word essay by legendary Go-Between Mr. Robert Forster in the Australian critical magazine, The Monthly. Their second album “Europe” was released last year and was made Rough Trade’s Album Of The Month, as well as receiving plaudits from everywhere from Pitchfork to Rolling Stone magazine. The band are currently working on their third album, tentatively entitled “We Come From The Same Place”, for release next year. "Terrific, witty and heartfelt, like a less moody Belle & Sebastian” – The New York Times http://www.allodarlin.com AMOR DE DIAS Amor de Días is a long-term collaboration between Alasdair MacLean and Lupe Núñez-Fernández. Alasdair has previously released several albums on Merge as singer and songwriter with The Clientele, and Lupe has been making short, bittersweet songs with her band Pipas for over ten years. Earlier this year they released The House at Sea, their second album as Amor de Días, recorded with the addition of a rhythm section of James Hornsey and Howard Monk, both formerly of The Clientele. A snapshot of a year’s songs written in London and Madrid, there are pop songs, delirious dream accounts, strange lyrical puzzles, and stories from the city and the suburbs. "An almost ideal blend of indie pop and bossa nova" - dusted magazine http://amordedias.com |
