Sounds XP proudly presents Dignan Porch's album launch. Having released two albums on Brooklyn’s Captured Tracks label (and being the first band to do so), Dignan Porch – the south London psyche-pop group who originally started as the solo project of Joseph Walsh – will release their third album via the Brighton-based Faux Discx imprint. It’s called ‘The Observatory’ and it’s out June 16th. Support comes from Bella Union dream-pop act the Great Ytene and Pitchfork favs; jangle-rockers Pop Strangers. GREAT YTENE As a name, it sounds wonderful - at one English and exotic, intimately familiar yet mysterious and unknowable. The Yteneis an old Anglo-Saxon name for parts of the New Forest, an area which remains one of the most densely wooded places in the country. There is an emphasis on sound, on switching off logical faculties to explore the senses. From what we've heard thus far, The Great Ytene are attempting to channel that lush, widescreen sound into something which has an immediate impact. There's an expansive, psychdelic edge here, one which peers past the prosaic meaning of everyday life to dwell in the imagination. Clash Magazine https://soundcloud.com/greatytene POPSTRANGERS Now resident in London, Auckland trio Popstrangers have unpacked second album 'Fortuna'. Far lighter than their grungey 2013 debut, 'Antipodes', it's pitched between the blissed-out guitar of Splashh and the idiosyncratic pop approach of fellow Kiwi, Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Full of fluttering, underwater vocals, it contains the likes of ‘Violet’ and ‘Tonight’, which are doused in drunken-sounding effects pedals. ‘Her’ flits between mid-'90s, sing-a-long melodies and a Beatles-y brand of psychedelia, while ‘'Don't Be Afraid's verses lurch along with the kind of pleasingly off-kilter bass lines that even Beck would think were a bit weird. Nice to have seen you Trev! Got home after the gig, turned on the Glastonbury coverage and knew I'd been to a better gig. The Digs were awesome. |
