and although not necessarily better than the original, The Swamp Rats version of Psycho (The Sonics) is pretty fantastic!
Could have listed several more Elvis and Cramps covers, but I'm sure you get my drift.

Bodies (Pistols classic) by Veruca Salt - completely reworked version. The way Louise Post sort of drawls the lyrics totally changes the tune. Excellent!
