Carbon footprints - it's a load of cobblers. I like the Wave pictures though.

Recording took place on August 28th in a solar powered studio at ‘The Premises’ in London. The band walked to the studio - as did the engineer - and following the recording the studio uploaded the tracks to the server of their digital distributor, for release through iTunes and other digital download stores.

No CDR's or paper press releases will be generated. Promo information will be distributed via email, and the tracks via download links. The process will even be filmed on solar-powered camera.

Wave Pictures recorded not one but four songs during their stint at The Premises, resulting in the Pigeons EP. The EP includes live favourite Long Island; One Line At A Time; Don’t Say I Haven’t Tried and David’s Evening On Wheels. Vocalist Dave Tattersall played the piano on these versions with Charles and Rebecca from Slow Club taking on guitar duties and backing vocals respectively.

Given the prolific writing and recording output of the indie three-piece The Wave Pictures, it is fitting that their label Moshi Moshi find a “Low Carbon” means of releasing their boundless creativity.

As Moshi Moshi co-founder Michael McClatchey explains, “ We thought it would be a useful experiment to see what we could do to reduce the carbon emissions associated with releasing a record. The initial aim was to make it carbon-neutral but it soon became apparent this would be impossible given the power needed to run the servers for delivering the tracks in to itunes. Nevertheless I believe this should still be the 'greenest' record release yet. When I mentioned the idea to The Wave Pictures they asked if they could be the ones to do it, and suggested they could walk to the studio from their house.”

Oh dear what a load of cack. But there's a nugget of a good idea here. There's plenty of bands I'd like to challenge to be greener than the Wave Pictures.

btw - I do like the Wave Pictures. It may be that they're trying to make up for growing up in a village with more 4x4s than I've ever seen.

Er well apart from round where I live perhaps...

Thom York pointed out recently that the big problem being in a band & reducing your carbon footprint is actually to do with gigging. All those punters travelling to gigs, the electricity for lighting & PA, etc..

So recording & promos is a bit of a red herring, unless the wave pics are about to do a tour visiting punters homes on foot and playing acoustically during the daylighthours.

By the way, I'm not being some sort of holier that thou friend of the earth. We can all play our part and I'm sure I could do a lot more that I currently do.

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it - the impact that our behaviour has on the earth is minimal. Planet earth is the mummy and will do as she pleases. (as she always has. Go ask the dinos - they didn't get it in the neck because they didn't seperate the plastics from the food remains)

Modern living has a slight impact on the environment but it's nothing compared to the impact that natural forces have - hello the sea. This global warming nonsense has been created to dictate how we should live our lives - it's become an industry in itself and jobs rely on it. Nobody will ever admit now that it spun out of control. I wish a band would write a song about that and use the most 'unfriendly for the environment' procedures to create it.

To put this all into perspective, in a few hundred million years, the sun will expand into a red giant and engulf Earth anyway!
