John Terry gets away with countless arms out handballs in the box.
Gerrard gets away with ridiculous dives EVERY game (doesn't even seem to get noticed by pundits, he's not foreign).
Ronaldo is treading a fine line, and will very soon step over it. i'm very surprised that SAF hasn't seen him get away with it once and then warn him that he'll soon be looking at a three match ban if it continues.
we don't get a favourable bias, as a team. yes, there is horrendous pressure heaped on the refs during home game penalty shouts etc, but that's the same with every big club.
the reason Ronaldo might be getting a wider berth, though, is that he's the first World Player of the Year that the PL has produced, and the amount of positive attention he's drawn the FA PL is literally phenomenal. far beyond any other player.
the FA want as many people over the world to be watching their league. and, they know that if Ronaldo is playing week in - week out it increases interest by an absolutely massive margin.
that's why i would imagine he's gotten away with 'flick outs' two or three times this season. not because the FA is Red biased.
he needs to stop it, though. and quickly.
the one thing i will say, is that you NEVER see our players leaving the ground with two footed lunges, or irresponsible high challenges. our worst tackler is, notoriously, Paul Scholes. and even his bad ones are never 'wincers', they're just crap.
i'd rather have a petulant World Player of the Year who is getting a rep for silly flicks at other players. than have a player who puts other's careers in doubt with nasty, bad intended challenges.
reactions on the pitch are a sign of passion (see my av) and although they have to be punished, there's a comfort and strange beauty in seeing millionaire players show the desire and reaction that we all do/did in the playground when we're kids. at least they still care.
the thing i do really hate though, are bad, reckless, high challenges. i love aggressive, competitive players, but there's no need to endanger careers. Keane should've knocked Håland out in the tunnel if he was that hell bent on revenge.
did anyone see that tackle by (i think) Kevin Nolan last week...?
whoever it was, fucking hell it was horrendous. and you see them every week. i think for straight reds a three match ban is fine. but i think if the tackle (on retrospective review) could have SERIOUSLY damaged another player, a more serious ban should occur.
