Being an out of towner (i.e from Kent) I have a constant issue with gigs going on past the time of my last train. My gigging accomplice used to live in Sutton (not particularly close but at least the night buses run there) but he's moved out and back to Kent so we're a bit stuck now.

Does anyone know any good cheap hostels in London? Most of the gigs we go to are either at the Windmill in Brixton or in Camden so hostels near thoses places especially. I found a place in Brixton called the Hootananny which is very cheap (£11 a night) and looks okay - has anyone stayed there before?

£11 a night? Blimey. That's ridiculously cheap. Obviously a DSS place but doesn't matter if you're only crashing out. Cheapest I'm aware of are places near railway stations in central London but I think they're all around the £50 mark.

Hootanany is a scotish theme pub near where i lived. I can't imagine it being too good as it used to be a bit of a hangout for smack heads. Might have cleaned it up though, have a look when you go to the windmill next, it's only the other side of Brixton water Lane. It's weird, Jah Wobble and Wanda Jackson have lpayed their, but it's mainly random Ska bands.

There is a good YMCA near London Bridge, near the George pub. I think it's the same company as the one in Camden which i've been told is ok. Or just knock on TOTP towers in delancy street in camden, Eddie and Keith are statisitically likely to be holding a party.
