I know some people dislike David Feck but the best underrated band, no contest, is Comet Gain. There are loads of different elements in there - mod, garage, punk and Northern Soul – and you can compare them to the Jam at their peak and Dexy’s but they also carry Nuggets, Tuatara, the Temptations and ‘the Freewheeling Bob Dylan’ under their arms. Feck’s songs at best have a soulful passion and he’s a bit of a beat poet when it comes to lyrics. Their only problem is that there’s no one great CG album for people to latch on to – ‘Realistes’ is my fave but the best thing they released was the Broken Record Players comp. In 20 years time, this is the band that people will be talking about.

My problem with Comet Gain is that Feck's voice is fecking awful - even by indie standards. I don't mind the odd voice with character (I mean Billy Bragg and the Pogues are 2 of my top 5 fave acts) but he's just shit. Which is a shame.
