Anybody watch Reggae Brittainia on BBC4 last night.
Seemed a bit slapdash and hastily put together compared to it's prog and soul predecessors.
No mention of Duke Vin or Count Suckle, two men who can quite literally claim to have introduced Jamaican music to the UK. Nothing about Jimmy James & The Vagabonds, probably the first UK based ska band. Misty In Roots totally ignored and John Peel's championing of the music also neglected. And where was Eddy Grant, a man who as a teenager wrote two of Prince Buster's greatest sides as well as having a hugely successful singing career.
Eric "The black wogs and coons and Arabs and fucking Jamaicans don't belong here" Clapton is given great credit, though!
Did, at least, have a few nice bits of vintage footage.

I'm not a fan of Clapton but I think he was off his tits when he said that and probably didn't mean it or even realise what he was saying.

Anyway... I saw some of it. Thought it was pretty good. You won't believe the amount of drunken conversations I've had with a mate of mine about when he was in the Vagabonds. He'll tell anyone who's listening when he's had a few. Some good stories but when you're hearing them for the 100th time it gets a bit tedious.

Really liked The Selector live stuff.

There was an interview with Clapton in Uncut magazine where his original quote was questioned. Although claiming to have been pissed he also stands by them fully for the reason that he feels immigration is out of control and that immigrants are being conned to come here by false promises, then shuttled into crap jobs and crap housing. He feels this "con" needs to stop and says that only Enoch had the "foresight" and "vision" to see what was going to happen and stand up and say so.
Wonder how all the black musicians, whose music Clapton's own music draws so heavily on, would think of that.
