The two players City took off them is what's really hurt them.

Fabregas was far from a regular last season, and when he did play he was phoning it in.

Also, it was expected that he'd leave. But Nasri and Clichy are a big loss and I don't think Wenger (or anyone, barring the players, their agents and Garry Cock) expected them to jump ship given that they had CL football guaranteed (as always) and Nasri was due to have the attack built around him.

Poor from Nasri, but that's the nature of the game nowadays more and more. Just look at that cunt, Gyan and his screwing of Sunderland!

Depends how you look at it though. Put yourself in Nasri’s shoes. He grows up from a young age with all the expectation that’s attached to a child prodigy, everywhere you go people tell you you’re going to be the next Zidane and achieve all these wonderful things. Arsenal then pay 14 million for him and he makes the move, seeing this as his opportunity to compete at the top level and win the trophies his talent has always promised. Fast forward three seasons, he’s approaching what will be the prime of his career and he still doesn’t have a single medal to his name. He looks around the squad and he sees (as you’ve rightly pointed out) his captain and club’s best player not putting in a jot of effort while waiting for a move to Barca. He’s got a defence behind him which can’t be relied upon and a manager who refuses to do anything about it. He’s got fellow midfielders who don’t want to try, and he’s constantly creating chance which Bendtner and Chamakh make a sport out of missing.

Then City come along, they’ve just won a trophy (which he craves), they’re clearly on an upward curve with better long term prospects than the club he’s at, and of course they will pay him very well, so why wouldn’t he make the move. Arsenal paid good money for him, he gave them 3 years, and now they have sold him on at a profit. In the same way Young left Villa to pursue a better opportuinity at United, so Nasri has done the same with Arsenal and City.

Actually I admit it. I'd love Forest to get back into the top flight - no danger of it mind you. I should also admit that it is the shared experience aspect that's really at the heart of why I like football. Just going as a kid to somewhere with so many people and such a big atmosphere. The more people the better. Championship/League 1 are fine, but (whisper it quietly) I really can't get excited about non-league

Leaving Aston Villa for United isn't really comparable to leaving Arsenal for City though is it?

Arsenal will be fine in the long run anyway, as long as they keep hold of Wenger and don't have any more important players poached. Every year they get written off and every year they get top 4. This season they're having a mare trying to balance their team after the huge dents other clubs have made in their squad, so perhaps they won't get top 4 this time 'round. But with the amount of experience the manager has, and the quality they have in their squad still, they'll be back around soon enough I imagine.
