This is really fuckin' good. One of the best music videos I've seen for years.

Goes at the notion of the 'pantheon' style culture we've created and it's effects on REALITY for everyone - it's inescapability, and goes at it deep. It marries the seductive nature of both celebrity worship and celebrity hatred, and pours scorn upon himself in the past for wanting to be one of these 'stars', and how the life/art mirror has become blurred and unreal - showing himself as an old man being terrorised and seduced by demonic images of youthful 'stars' of today. Before admitting, helplessly, 'but I hope they live forever', with so much vulnerability in his old voice.

He knows the culture he's sending up in this video inside and out, his imagery helped to create it for fuck sake. And now - he's old, and closer to death, and so is it.

It's a fascinating video, song, and approach from Bowie.

And he has the right to do it after years shunning any attention whatsoever.

This is, to me at least, one of the most interesting things he's ever done. And it is definitely very relevant.

This has the feel that Johnny Cash's 'last stand' had with 'Hurt' etc. It feels...ominous, somehow. I love it.

I've only watched it just now, twice, and I'm sure I will pick up more symbolism from the video on future viewings.

So are you liking it or not, Simon? I haven't listened to it yet. I'm making David work hard to get me to listen to it. We're in the 'petting' stage of the listening experience. I'm holding out on him.

The first 5 are amazing especially the title song. I listened to that on repeat yesterday for a looong time. Even the 2nd single that I didn't like has grown a lot on me.
