I am about to release a tribute album to the 80's left wing band the Redskins. Anyway I am having a few problems with the artwork. I want to use the picture below on the front cover but the quality needs to be improved to 300dpi. So is there anyway I can alter the picture to improve the quality? I no longer have the original photo or any decent art programs on my pc. |

The only way you could increase the DPI would be to make the image itself smaller, (thus fitting more dots per inch), how big is your original, is it bigger than you need to use it? 300dpi seems to be the standard resolution that people ask for for print jobs but in fact at work, even though we supply them at 300dpi, our repro house rip them out at 155dpi so you may be okay anyway. |

I tried to do some work on it last night. Is there a better art program than paint for XP? As it's not very good. |

is the best open source and therefore free image programme. Not easy to use but rivals the packages Bovine mentions. |

Thanks for that. I've downloaded it and it looks far better than paint, but it will probably take me a while to get use to it. |

The GIMP is far more powerful than paint which is something left over from Windows 3.1 days and probably earlier. Remember it is the open source rival of Photoshop or Paintshop Pro. There are some good tutorials for The GIMP on the next. i don't have the links to hand but a search on Google will do the trick. |

Bazza, no amount of tweaking is going to increase your DPI, (dots per inch), if they're not there then they're not there! The best you'll be able to do is adjust brightness/contrast. |
