Yrp I lurve bandcamp. Shame they don't have an app you could save streams for offline listening as I have a massive backlog of bandcamp listening to do!

It's bollocks. What is a niche indie album? Define how many plays that is? They won't of course.

It's a shame that they don't break it down on a per stream basis but I am guessing that because, as they state, it depends on a country by country basis. That said they could give an average cost. Any idea of the geographic breakdown of plays for the album in question Trev?

I would also like to see how they compare against Deezer, We7, Grooveshark etc unless they are under radio streaming services on that page.

Do you pay a charge for uploading tracks onto Spotify?

That said if you are unhappy with it then leave as you plan too but Spotify or other streaming services are not going to go away just yet and people who listen via Spotify I guess in the main just simply don't care about payments to artists. The fact that you offer listening via bandcamp (soundcloud too?) is an great alternative. Any stats on converting plays to sales via bandcamp?

Currently it seems that Spotify only has stuff that is also released in other forms. If it grows to fulfil all it's ambitions there could be little demand for those other formats. Downloading seems to me to be a redundant concept if streaming everything from a giant database at any time for a nominal monthly fee is available. CDs are already looking obsolete and vinyl the preserve of a small,
diminishing number of collectors. With the revenue to be gained from Spotify alone there'll be little incentive for labels (be it huge multinationals or the likes of Odd Box) to invest in new acts. Presumably bands will in future be able to record and upload straight to Spotify, but will this be worth their while? If Spotify grows, will it, on it's own, be viable for new bands to make recordings and upload them? Could it gain a monopoly and then start to put it's prices up massively?
I've no idea, but it doesn't strike me as sustainable as the main source for purchased music that it seems to be aiming at.
