In all her great wisdom, my missus decided to place her first ever bet last night. The silly cow decided that she'd have a punt on Germany winning 9-0, like anything even close to that would ever happen!


(We were so close to winning piles of cash from just a fiver!)

It was a cracking bit of TV viewing. Brazil so deserved that mullering after their brutality against Columbia. They didn't at any stage look fit, organised or talented enough to stop the Germans. Fantastic stuff. I hope the Germans are like that in the final too, could make for a cracking final.

The Germans are the best team in the tournament and I hope they win it. Several other teams have several better players but one of the things this World Cup has shown is that you are only as good as your worst players and it's no use having 5 worldbeaters and 6 who are shit. Case in point was Costa Rica the other night against Holland, they allowed Kuyt, Indi et al to have as much of the ball as they liked and doubled up on the good players.

The most welcome aspect of Brazil's annihilation for me was having the TV cameras pan to the supporters of the losing team and them not erupt into ridiculously exaggerated smiling and waving because they'd seen themselves on tele! That's been driving me mad all tournament

I see Brazil are blaming their loss on Mick Jagger! Brilliant! Apparently he's the opposite of that psychic octopus - he's publicly given his support to 10 teams in a row at the last couple of world cups... and all 10 have gone on to lose.

By the way...

Interesting statistic that's got me even more happy that van Gaal is Utd's new manager. He's made some great tactical moves (the set-up that stuffed Spain, the late keeper substitution...) and before the tournament I don't think many people would have thought this Dutch team would be a shoot-out away from the final.

The biggest problem when playing Argentina is keeping Messi in check, because when he's on form you only need one minor error and he can get a goal. Last night the Dutch totally kept him at bay. During the entire game he had a grand total of 1 touch inside the Dutch penalty area. The spot-kick at the end.

Shame RVP was off colour and Robben was quiet really. Made for a dull game.

It was tedious - I switched off when Dirk Kuyt (who has had a great tournament) started playing for penalties after 80 minutes. This fear of losing in knockout games makes these stages of the tournament somewhat boring. However as the Brazilians noted you do get the odd exceptions.

Will the final result in the ultimate Brazilian nightmare?

Brazil must've thrown that match surely? Some dodgy match fixing/crime thing. They didn't even look like they were trying. Doesn't explain all the boo-hoos at the end though! So probably not in reality - but it sure looked like one team was trying to lose from my sofa.
