Didn't see as many films as in most previous years, but had a pretty good percentage of good choices in the ones I did see. A few I've not seen would maybe have made my list had I done so, but of those I did see, here's my top 20. My number one hasn't seemed to have made it onto any lists or polls I've seen. This may be because all the critics will have seen it in 2013, but it's UK release date was in January this year.
12 Years A Slave Finding Vivian Mayer Leviathan Pride All Is Lost Still The Enemy Within Boyhood Road Moebius Next Goal Wins Maps To The Stars An Episode In The Life Of An Iron Picker Of Horses & Men Frank Tom At The Farm Ida Calvary Fruitvale Station Stations Of The Cross Two Days One Night
A few from the festivals that didn't get a release, but might (definitely would, in the case of the first two) have been in my top 20 had they have done so: Life Feels Good (Polish film festival) A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night (London film festival) Stop At Nothing: The Lance Armstrong Story (East End film festival) The Dance Of Reality (East End Film Festival) 9 Month Stretch (French film festival)
Worthy mentions: Under The Skin Manuscripts Don't Burn The Rocket Citizen Four The Zero Theorem We Are The Best Welcome To New York Starred Up Cold In July The Punk Singer Inside Llewyn Davis The Armstrong Lie Stranger By The Lake Bastards The Past Magic Magic A Touch Of Sin Pantani: Death Of a Cyclist When I Saw You Mr Turner Pluto The Man Whose Mind Exploded I Am Divine God's Pocket A Most Wanted Man
and from the festivals:
Tokyo Tribe (London Film Festival) Freefall (London film festival) The Scribbler (Sci-fi London) OKV: The Manual (Sci-fi London) Wakolda (Jewish film festival)
