It's riddled with cliches and it's clumsier than Gary from Eastenders with his hand down a woman's top. It follows all the pre-requisites required of dire online journalism - unimaginative, uncreative and lazy. Plus, and this is key, it doesn't actually mean anything.

Wow, what snobbery. Seems harsh to kick the kick the underdog, rather than the PR driven hack scrotes.

I appreciate... no actually I demand good writing. That's not snobbery. I'm not kicking any underdog. They're only underdogs because they have no talent. Why does every too bit clot with a superficial interest in contemporary music think they're a fucking writer these days? It's like punk all over again, and let me tell you this about punk, 99% of punk bands were / are / will be shit.

I can't write for toffee. I freely admit that. Always have. That IS the point. I know with an increase in blogs/fanzines quality control goes out the window. That could be considered a downside. But like Bola said, i'd rather read clumsy and enthusiastic amatuers over proper 'hacks'. Always have done. That's why I loved buying fanzines in the 80s.

I just do my site to point out what I consider the best stuff around. That's far more important than being able to write. I've read music reviews in the past and wonder what the fuck 'the writer' is blathering on about. I am anti wordyness for it's own sake. I'll happily say 95% of my reviews are pish. But if even a few people read them, are then interested enough to check out what I consider to be good bands - job done.

And all the detractors of this world can take a running jump as far as I am concerned.

But seriously:

So does it matter? I agree that with the increased number of blogs/sites that quality control is declining but to be honest so what. It's the same with music quality as well as now any Tom, Dick or Harry can post their music thanks to the net.


Do writers need a degree in English, psychoanalysis etc or is enthusiasm, passion and being a fan of music enough? I plump for the latter. Discuss.
