no i'm not a Creation Records fan. it's the same story with most British 'indie' of the 80's and 90's, i don't hate it, i just don't connect with it in anyway at all.

i was a little kid when it was happening and i think to really get into something retrospectively you have to really connect to it.

but i don't really hate anything about it...except for Alan Mcgee and Bobby Gillespie.

Since All Along The Watchtower by Hendrix is arguably my favourite every song that has to feature. Detroit Cobra's have featured heavy here, went to see them a few weeks ago in as authentic a venue as you could hope for and they were awful, biggest disappointment live for a long while.
Worst cover arguably was the result of Embrace covering De La Soul, three was not the magic number for those guys.

Saw Herman Dune on Wednesday and they did an incredible cover of Dylan's Heart of Mine (from Shot of Love) which was so much better.

Husker Du do an amazing version of Eight Miles High which has to be the Best Cover Ever. Well, it's up there with Great Lakes' This Will Be Our Year (Zombies).

Essex Green do an ace version of Grin's Everybody's Missing The Sun. Ditto Iron and Wine with Such Great Heights. Futureheads' Houses of Love is better than the original but it's also better than everything the Futureheads have composed too.

But I'm not sure whether the Slits' version of IHITTG is better than Marvin Gaye's. The whole point of the Slits version is to twist the original into new shapes. You can't have one without the other, whereas if we're looking for better versions, the reworking is superior and automatically replaces the original. You can't overlook the Gayester so I'd be happy to concede that both are great songs.

Also, The Beautiful South's cover of Pebbles' eighties feminist girl-pop Girlfriend from their first album is quality, and features one of the best Dave Rotheray guitar solos ever. The first and only punk song to utilise a big brass orchestra? One to turn up loud.
