I can think of no greater evidence of a team lacking in squad depth than having to bring on Harry Kewell in a European cup final..

Rafa does have a good CL record so far, but he has failed to make a proper challenge for the domestic title. all dippers will admit this is the big one for them now, 17 years is a long time, especially in the modern era.

this season Rafa will really feel the pressure of having to mount a decent campaign.

i feel he plays to not lose, somewhat like Sven. so it's rare that his team take a real hiding, but it's also rare that they go on dramatic winning streaks to the point of really mounting a proper title challenge.

be interesting to see who he buys.

The other team I follow were promoted yesterday to the Bundesliga 2 after being stuck in the Regional leagues for the past four years.

Yesterdays play-off final was pretty good although not for my Shrewsbury supporting pals. Looking forward to Yeovil v Blackpool and despite the nastier elements of some of their fans I would like to see the former go up.

I ain't a Derby fan but a good mate of mine is and he's on his way to Wembley as we speak... If they lose he'll be unbearable for the summer so here's hoping they win...

Mind you if they do go up they're coming STRAIGHT back down so might be worth keeping them in the Championship so he ain't walking round like a bear with a sore head every Saturday night after another drubbing...

Fair play to em they finished comfortably 3rd. They'll go straight back down though.

They did but in a football sense they were just like "boring" Arsenal back in the day... tons of 1-0's and entertainment value of absolutely fuck all. I had the mispleasure of seeing them a few times this season... my God they were dreadful. West Brom at least looked the part even though they started the season in disarray...

My Baggies supporting mate is gutted though. He was meant to be going to Wembley but lost out in the ticket lottery. 16,000 empty seats or something? I don't understand the politics around ticket allocation but that is an absolute farce. 33,000 for each team? Nowhere near enough. Northampton Town took 40,000 to Wembley in '98 and they were fucking awful...

Speaking of which I remember begging my old man to get us a ticket for that play-off final. Like every other kid at my school we didn't give a shit about Cobblers but as soon as they hit Wembley... everyone wanted a piece! All my mates were going and my Dad was like "No way - you don't even support 'em. I don't give a shit if they're local, if you went week in week out THEN I'd by you a ticket for Wembley but no chance son..."

The harsh realities of principle taught at a young age!
