My parents are Irish, resident in England before I was born but this is my actual birthplace (my mother had the romantic notion that her first born should be eligible to play in the green - this was before Jackie Charlton proved that any Englishman who’d so much as supped a Guinness could be Irish if necessary).



And it's where I lived for the first two weeks of my life (never been back). It's too complicated to explain so I just say I was born and brought up in this place, where I lived till I left home. I saw this bloke and his partner open the local paint store when I was a kid - and they were second billing to Digby the Dulux Dog that day.

Here's the pub I grew up opposite...



The photographer of this would practically be on my old drive... I didn't stand a chance.

I've still had to be carried home out of there more than I care to recall...

Found some more pics. I was born in this hospital. It's now houses.



Spent a lot of time here as a child, man and boy! The pub has expanded greatly and changed sex (prince to princess) since I first came here. The Sunday night entertainment ratting has long gone!



Hackney doesn't have a football league team. It did up until the late 1920's. The ground was next to the pub above by the lea navigation canal. Eat your heart out Fulham. Apparently there is still a group who campaign for the O's to be brought back to the borough. I'm not one of them! Sadly the lovely named COWS FC who were named in their honour (Clapton Orient Women) are now Tower Hamlets FC.

Here's where I'll be this weekend, when I'm not at the Turf, supping Moorhouse's mild. This isn't the barmaid at the Pigeon Club though.

I was brought up on an estate in a suburb of Liverpool called Netherley.

I've not got any pics of it & the house is no longer there. The whole estate was demolished a few years ago. The last time I saw it what when i passed on a bus about 15 years ago. All the window were coverd up with corrugated metal and there were scorch marks all over the walls. I've been trying my best to find out exactly what happened. You'd think there'd be some evidence in this internet world of ours, but it seems like it's been blotted out of history. Apparently the estate what know locally, towards the end, as “Thatchers Beirut”.

We moved to Widnes. It's a smelly dump, but did boast a fine Rugby League team



and a spectacular bridge!




After that I moved hither & thither (sheffield, east kilbride, weymouth, london) before settinging in a leafy suburb of this fine metropolis:



This is my local park & museum, where I like to have a nice working lunch when the weather is fine...
