THE SEXUAL OBJECTS
The Sexual Objects are the latest outfit of the legendary Davy Henderson, previously of the hugely influential post-punk band The Fire Engines, 80s art popsters Win! and the fabulous Nectarine No. 9. Three singles in, including the excellent Boards Of Canada-produced 'Here Come The Rubber Cops', Hendersen spews a languid croon that sounds like Bob Dylan in the mid-sixties over an appealing Bolan-esque boogie, glamming it up like a reverbless Jesus & Mary Chain, the whole history of Scots pop flowing through their veins.
“Here Come The Rubber Cops has the attractively louche narcotic drawl of Lou Reed, and sounds like Prince taking on The Only Ones. You can hear a bit of Marquee Moon’s apocalypse – the darkness doubling, lightning striking itself – too” (Fire Escape Talking)
“A frighteningly assured amalgam of freakbeat garage glam and east coast cool… Henderson and co are still the best rock’n’roll band on this or any other planet” (The List)

THE TAMBORINES
The Tamborines are a fuzz rock band consisting of core members Lulu Grave (Keyboards, Percussion) and Henrique Laurindo (Guitar, Vocals). They have been rapidly gaining acclaim throughout London with their mind-blowing, tripped-out live shows. Raised on a diet of underground indie, Bergman movies, and distorted guitars, The Tamborines combine their daydreaming sound with an art aesthetic that blends West Coast psychedelia with the noir of The Velvet Underground. The result is jangly guitar pop and hypnotic hazy retro organ with almost unsettling undertones. They are currently recording their debut album, following on from their critically acclaimed Sally O’Gannon and 31st Floor singles.
“Insanely catchy chorus + INCREDIBLY LOUD GUITARS = perfect pop music” (NME)

A CLASSIC EDUCATION
Hailing from Bologna (home of tagliatelle, ragu bolognese, Lamborghini and Maserati), A Classic Education been together for about two years and have played with the likes of the Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, Fanfarlo, Lightspeed Champion, Jeremy Warmsley, and Los Campesinos! While their debut EP owes a lot to '90s American indie (singer Jonathan Clancy, originally from Canada, sounds a little like Built to Spill's Doug Martsch), they've expanded from a trio to a six-piece (including strings and keyboards) that ups the sweeping romanticism factor quite a bit.
"Epic, multi-layered and expansive... file next to the likes of Arcade Fire and Decemberists with impunity. " (Tangents)

STANDARD FARE
The latest band to join the legendary Thee SPC roster, Standard Fare are a trio from Sheffield who blur the lines between post-punk and indiepop, sounding like a long lost Peel favourite brought back to life for 2009. Angular, melodic, spiky, intimate, there are hints of Young Marble Giants, The Go-Betweens, early PJ Harvey and The Lodger all tussling for space here. Their debut release "Dancing" is a tale of broken relationships told to a delicious melody that's musically somewhere between The Lemonheads and Los Campesinos!
"I love Standard Fare for many reasons: the crackling female vocals; the way each song seems as though it's about to fall apart before it roars off into the stratosphere again; the fact that, in the days of ridiculous band names, they have a quite self-effacing one" (A Layer Of Chips)

A fecking great line up. Sadly it's Scared To Dance that night so I can't make it. Sexual Objects are ace. In fact all the bands are!

Hey,

Here are the stage times for tomorrow night at the Buffalo Bar and also to let you know that unfortunately two members of A Classic Education have contracted flu and so they're unable to play. Luckily for us the excellent Still Corners have agreed to step into the breach at the last minute. So...

Doors 8pm

Standard Fare 8:45
Still Corners 9.30
The Tamborines 10:15
The Sexual Objects 11:00

Then we've got DJs until the early hours, with Fortuna POP! regulars and our guest for the night Wayne Gooderham of Uptight Club, so bring yr dancin' shoes.

Tickets should be available on the door, or you can still buy in advance from here:

See yr tomorrow.

STILL CORNERS
Building dreamy noir-pop love songs like Alfred Hitchcock built suspense, Greenwich 4-piece Still Corners create a kaleidoscope world around them, full of wintry melody, swirling organ, and big drums. Inspired by French film and sixties sound production and influenced by a range of artists from Serge Gainsbourg to Ennio Morricone as well as contemporaries the Cocteau Twins, Broadcast, and Camera Obscura, Still Corners continue to delight audiences across London.
“Sounding like the missing tracks from Broadcast's The Noise Made By People they couldn't possibly be more breezy and dreamy even if they were blowing on clothing line in outer space” (Skatterbrain)
