Adie Nunn's on the London forum, looking for gig promoters for the Monarch and Camden Head got me wondering about the current scene in London. Firstly it's interesting that they are both in Camden when I remember 5 or 6 years ago something like 80% of my gigs were probably up there (and half must have been in the Monarch). Now I go there about once a year and haven't been to the Monarch in years (probably the great but sad T&F one with the Loves). What's gone wrong with Camden - are people just bored with the area?

Secondly, why are there sooooo many venues in East London these days? Is it just cheap or is it a Hoxton is the new Camden thing so the kids are lured there for nights out for whatever reason, then move there, making it ever more self-fulfilling?

Thirdly when's it gonna be South London's turn (again)? New Cross glowed a few years ago with Rocklands doing a good job but Brixton's not quite what it was a year ago (the Windmill no longer seems to have gigs on every night and JAMM has stopped featuring so regularly) and overall south of the river just seems a little less of a scene than it was.

Camden was THEPLACETOBE during the heady mid 90s Britpop days, a decade later only hangers-on were left, now, almost 2 decade later it seems to be mainly populated by goths and . Times change. People move on. Scenes errupt in different places and people gravitate to those places. I bet Peckham is going to be one of those places soon. I'm probably wrong.
