Chaps. Check out the new version of Thee SPC website, which I put live just yesterday. It's got right modern thingys on it, such as social network feeds n' the like. Also some interesting new stock: A bit of garage, a dollop of folkin' noodling and some indiepop nonsense. Fun for all the family.

NEW STUFF IN RIGHT NOW:

Shrag "Life! Death! Prizes!" CD

Ace new album from stomping indiepoppers Shrag. Including the brilliant single Rabbit Kids.

The Orchids "The Lost Star" CD digipak

Brand new album from The Orchids, featuring ace recent single She's My Girl. It's an exceptionally strong album full of trademark Orchids melancholy and melodic indiepop. Highly Recommended.

Darren Hayman & The Secondary Modern "Essex Arms" CD digipak

Also available on LP. See pre-orders page!

Great album from the former Hefner frontman. Essex Arms showcases his increasingly complex and mature songs, with tough, but soulful folk-rock reminiscent of Incredible String Band/Lambchop.

Hannah Peel "You Call This Your Home" 7 inch

Great new single from Hannah Peel. This time we get to hear Hannah's own songs, following her previous EP of cover versions, and very lovely they are too. "You Call This Your Home" has a lush 60s folk-pop feel. Hugely recommended.

The Maladies Of Bellafontaine "Black Biro" 7 inch

Another ace Static Caravan find. On "Black Biro" The Maladies Of Bellafontaine give us a mix of folk, Broadcast-esque 60s artpop and indiepop! That description sounds a bit mad, but it's true! Have a listen. Very recommended.

Erland And The Carnival "S/T" 12 inch

Erland And The Carnival make a pastoral, psychedelic sound described by the band as “Pentangle meets Ennio Morricone meets Love meets 13th Floor Elevators meets Joe Meek.”

Various Artists "Scared To Dance Autumn 2010 Fanzine " fanzine

Autumn issue of the excellent Scared To Dance fanzine. Interviews with Shrag, Pocketbooks, Tender Trap, Cats On Fire, The Blanche Hudson Weekend. Comes with a 5 track sampler CD from Oddbox Records.

Thread Pulls "New Thoughts" CD digipak

Stripped back to a core of drums and bass with skewed grooves anchor a hypnotic proto-disco sound - kick-drum centred and sub-bass heavy. With echoes of Cabaret Voltaire and ESG.
Also available on LP. See pre-orders

Hunter-Gatherer "Pere Lachaise" 10 inch

The masked electronic wunderkind and Witch House enthusiast, conjures up a haunting athmosphere of icy yet oddly uplifting melancholia.

Various Artists "We Were So Turned On: A Tribute To David Bowie" Double CD

Double CD tribute to Bowie featuring Warpaint, Vivian Girls, Exitmusic, A Place To Bury Strangers, etc. Proceeds go to Warchild http://www.warchild.org

Shady Bard "Trials" CD digipak

Trials is the second album by Shady Dard. Telling the story of a village ravaged by fire, the new songs fuse cinematic instrumentation and vivid imagery to create textured symphonic pop with explosive postrock crescendos.

Los Peyotes "Garaje or Muerte" 12 inch

The Kings of South American Garage Punk are back with their 3rd LP - Garaje or Muerte. With fuzz and tremolo on the guitars, Farfisa organ, tambourines and demented screams they spit out a kind of music that is totally bonkers.

Her Name Is Calla "The Quiet Lamb" CD

Extremely intense and emotional stuff from Her Name is Calla. Each song is stretched to almost breaking point, with passages of gentle harmony and atmosphere. The resulting sound is dense but controlled. Enthalling.

MJ Hibbett and The Validators "Forest Moon Of Enderby" CD digipak

A collection of b-sides and rarities, highlights include the effervescent truisms of "Never Going Back To Aldis" and "The Primal Rhythms of the Bolivian Nose Flute". Recommended

Repomen "Headlines EP" CD single

Great new EP from Sheffield indie stalwarts Repomen. Lead track "Headlines" is an uncharacteristically downbeat popsong that nevertheless hits the mark, building to a luscious crescendo.

Warpaint "Exquisite Corpse" 12 inch

Recently signed to Rough Trade, this is Warpaint's debut album from last year available at a new bargain price. Warpaint weaves majestic guitars, hypnotic vocals, and driving post-punk rhythms into gorgeous, sprawling songs.

Fever Fever "Bloodless EP" CD wallet

Following two critically acclaimed vinyl singles, the Norwich 3-piece return with a 5-track cd ep packed with the kind of urgent, exilerating pop thrills we’ve come to expect from Fever Fever.

Shrag "S/T" CD digipak

We got a restock of their first album released last year. Worth checking out alone for the delightfully rude "Talk To The Left" and the awesomely lovely "Hopelessly Wasted". But, really, the whole album is great. Recommended.

The Pipettes "Earth Vs The Pipettes " 12 inch

Leaving behind the three female harmony girl-group for the unison girl pop of Abba, moving towards the sounds of Chic-inspired seventies disco and eighties chart music, "Earth Vs The Pipettes" is chocfull of classic pop songs.

Darren Hayman & The Secondary Modern "Essex Arms" 12 inch

Great album from the former Hefner frontman. Essex Arms showcases his increasingly complex and mature songs, with tough, but soulful folk-rock reminiscent of a more urban Incredible String Band or an Anglicized Lambchop.

The Wildebeests "Gnuggets" 12 inch

This double album features members of The Headcoats, Milkshakes, Thanes, Kaisers and Masonics - a veritable garage-rock supergroup - presenting their greatest hits and misses from 1994 to the present.

Just added more spiffing stock....

The Blanche Hudson Weekend "Reverence , Severance And Spite" CD

The Blanche Hudson Weekend , still less than 1 year old and with only 3 single releases so far , have decided to compile all the tracks from those onto one CD , alongside a handful of brand new recordings and a couple of leftovers.

Darren Hayman And The Secondary Modern "Calling Out Your Name Again" 7 inch

4 track EP. For Fans Of: Hefner, The Wave Pictures, The Mountain Goats, Lambchop, The Incredible String Band, Fanfarlo, Emmy The Great, Ray Davies. Ex-Hefner frontman’s brilliant new duet with Emmy The Great.

Imp "Just Destroyer" CD

Another great EP from on Philophobia Records. Thsi time it's a fine collection of melodic grungy pop from Wakefield's Imp.

Phil Wilson "I Own It" 7 inch

Phil Wilson returns with a great single taken from his new album "God Bless Jim Kennedy", his first since The June Brides, too many years ago! Backed with the non-album track What Time Can Do.

Let's Wrestle / Young Governor "Split Single" 7 inch

Must say I'd not heard Let's Wrestle before, despite seing the name about loads. Well more shame me 'cos this is completely ace. Sharing the split Young Governor come in a respectable second. A win all round. Very recommended.

Kid Canaveral "Shouting At Wildlife" CD digipak

Ace album from Kid Canveral. Standard Fare got me onto this lot after playing a couple of gigs with them. The album is killer from the off with great big in-your-face pop songs to holler along with at full volume. Put a right smile on my face, this one!

Kid Canaveral / Come On Gang "Split Single" 7 inch

Split single featuring these two great Scottish indiepop bands.

Kid Canaveral "Second Time Around" 7 inch

The debut single from Kid Canaveral back in 2008, and not on their new album "Shouting At Wildlife".

Kid Canaveral "Couldn't Dance" 7 inch

Great single taken from their album "Shouting at Wildlife".

Kid Canaveral "Smash Hits" 7 inch

Great single taken from their album "Shouting at Wildlife".

Insect Guide "Dark Days And Nights" Double CD

Critically acclaimed Leeds band Insect Guide return with LP Dark Days & Nights on Squirrel Records - their second album of dark, beautifully crafted pop.

Dirty Cuts "Yummy Mummy" 7 inch

Dancy indie chops from Glasgow's The Dirty Cuts. On a sort of Pulp/Franz Ferdinand tangent.

Thee Spivs "I Don't Want It" 7 inch

Smashing garage punk fun from Thee Spivs on Damaged Goods. Reminds me a bit of The Barracudas. Recommended.

The Piney Gir Country Roadshow "Jesus Wept" CD digipak

This album sees Piney grow up and face hard facts; hard facts that can make many a country song that much better. "'A tear in my beer' ain't the half of it," says Piney. Recommended.

The Humms "Lemonland" CD

Following their ace EP last year, The Humms return with a full length album on Oddbox Records. Hurrah! It's an utterly brilliant, catchy, funpacked, demented garage punk/pop fest and not to be missed. Hugely recommended.

Maple Leaves "Goldern Ether EP" CD digipak

New EP from Scottish band Maple Leaves on Bubblegum Records. "Golden Ether" is a mellow slice of indiepop, a bit like Pocketbooks or latter-day Belle and Sebastian, with soulful vocals and piano. Recommended.

Various Artists "Pick N'Mix A Bubblegum Records Compilation" Double CD

Excellent and diverse indiepop compilation from Scottish label, Bubblebum records.

Tesco Chainstore Mascara "Good Foundations" CD digipak

Indiepop duo TCM bang out nearly a dozen tune-filled pop songs in just over half an hour on this debut CD. It's a bit Helen Love, a bit Britpop (in a good way) and all-in-all very enjoyable. Lovely.

Various Artists "I Would Write A Thousand Words - A Tribute To Television Personalities Vol.2" Double CD

Volume two of an impressive tribute project on Canadian label The Beautiful Music. Some excellent version of typically great TVP songs. Featuring Summer Factory, The Groovy Cellar, The Legend, The Cult 45's and mnay more.

Armstrong "Songs About The Weather" CD wallet

Really nice little album from Welsh popsters Armstrong. There's a strong sixties vibe to their chiming acoustic indiepop - Think Beach Boys/Beau Brummels territory. Quality tunes much deserving of a wider audience. Very recommended.

Various Artists "If I Could Write Poetry - A Tribute to Television Personalities Vol1" Double CD

Volume one of an impressive tribute project on Canadian label The Beautiful Music. Some excellent version of typically great TVP songs. Featuring Biff Bang Pow, The Paisley Shirts, The Thanes, Nikki Sudden and mnay more.

Various Artists "Into The Jet Stream Of Pop - An International Pop Compilation" CD

A very international indiepop compilation from Canadian label The Beautiful Music, featuring 20 bands/artists from North America, the UK and Europe.

Jon Windle "Step Out The Man" CD

Debut solo album from the frontman of recently demised, Sheffield indie rockers Little Man Tate.

Right, just ordered the Let's Wrestle one from you. Your site really is quite spiffing these days, fella.

And the Phil Wilson one is the one I'd heard. Probably should buy that too. Hmmm.

More new stock!

Horowitz "Popkids of the World Unite!" CD digipak

**** WITH IMMEDIATE DIGITAL DOWNLOAD! PURCHASE AS NORMAL AND YOU'LL RECEIVE A DOWNLOAD CODE BY EMAIL****

Popkids of the World Unite! collects together the output of Horowitz between 2004 and 2009. Here's the science bit: Two indiekids-at-heart + one cassette + five compilations + four EPs + three 7" singles = seventeen fizzing, indiepop songs!

Phil Wilson "God Bless Jim Kennedy" 12 inch

25 years or so after The June Brides LP, Phil Wilson return with another album! Very much worth the wait, God Bless Jim Kennedy is full of the kind of fine pop songs you'd expect. A great return! It's also out on CD but we only have the LP.

We Are The Physics "Are OK At Music" CD digipak

New budget price issue of the We Are The Physics debut from 2008. These purveyors of completely fictional mutant science punk rock hail from Glasgow taking inspiration from Devo, The Skids, Polysics, Buddy Holly and Ex Models.

Mecca Normal "Malachi" 7 inch

Gentle lofi folk-pop from Mecca Normal on the International Pop Underground imprint of K Records.

Allo Darlin "My Heart Is A Drummer" 7 inch

Fourth single from their debut album, and my personal fave, with it's bouncy drums, that afro bass solo and it's melodic nod to Cyndi Lauper! The b-side is a lovely acoustic version of their previous single 'If Loneliness Was Art'.

Bearsuit "Please Don't Take Him Back" 7 inch

A funky, catchy little number from Bearsuit on the debut single for their new label Fortuna POP! 'Please Don't Take Him Back' has a right old school eighties pop feel, hints of Human League and the like. Nice!

City Center "Zen Kids" 7 inch

Nice bit of atmospheric shoegazy guitar pop from NYC band City Center. On the Dub Narcotic imprint of K Records

You Say Party Vs. Duloks "Suck It / Making Plans For Oliver" 7 inch

The first release on Club The Mammoth's record Label with You Say Party (Formerly You Say Party! We Say Die!) going head to head with The Duloks for this exclusive split EP release.

Hotpants Romance "The International" CD

Lancashire lasses Hotpants Romance return with a new abum on Cherryade. I saw them live earlier this year and a finer set of caterwauling garage punk fun you're unlikely to see. Plue the trio had ace beehives. Highly recommended.

Napoleon IIIrd "Christiania" CD digipak

Entitled "Christiania" after the 'self proclaimed autonomous area' Freetown Christiania in Copenhagen, the album is a collection of lushly textured pop songs, operatic indie and rich drones, all on the subject of small-town life.

Television Personalities "Fashion Conscious" CD

This compilation includes all 21 tracks that have been recorded for Little Teddy Recordings between '93 & '97, which have previously only been available on numerous limited-run, long-time out-of-print, seven-inch vinyl singles & EPs. Recommended.

Tall Ships "There Is Nothing But Chemistry Here" CD digipak

"Slow-building post-rock structures with invigorating post-hardcore synthery" - NME. "A brilliant example of one youthful expression of Brighton" - Drowned In Sound. This is the second EP from Brighton''s rising star Tall Ships.

Lots of new stock in time for Chrimbo, natch:

The Just Joans "Seasonal Greet" 3 inch CD

Lovely Seasonal offering from everyones fave Motherwell indiepop duo The Just Joans. Heartwarming like a box of quality street, a glass of sherry and a turkey sandwich in front of the fire.

Seapony "Dreaming" 7 inch

Fantastic indiepop with a gorgeous dreamy quality that reminds me of a mix of Field Mice and Shop Assistants. Very similar to their peers the Blanche Hudson Weekend but less noisy/more etheriel.

The Chanteuse And The Crippled Claw "Are You One?" 7 inch

This is ultra-catchy pop like the soundtrack to a spooky megadrive zombie game morphed with every brilliant 60s theme tune you can think of. Sheffield-based Salford prankster Adrian Flanagan is at the helm and the gorgeous Candie Payne provides vocals.

Eux Autres "Broken Bow" CD digipak

UK debut album from US 3-piece Eux Autres (don't ask me how it's pronounced, i've not a clue!) Whatever, the album is a top mix of indiepop/garage harmonies. There's depth to the melodies too, with some lovely powerpop moments.

Lê Almeida "Mono Maçã" 3 inch CD

New on WeePOP!

Girls Names/Brilliant Colors "I Lose/You Win" 7 inch

New split single from Tough Love Records.

Piskie Sits "The Way I'd Like To Go" CD digipak

Great to hear a new EP from Piskie Sits. Their album back in 2007 was - in my humble opinion - criminally underrated! Sure, they wear their US alt-rock influences on their sleeves, but they deliver the goods again with four excellent tunes.

The Crookes "Dreams Of Another Day" CD

Sheffield romantics The Crookes debut for Fierce Panda on this 7 track EP compiling their early singles and demos, ahead of a full album in the new year. Plenty of jangly pop gems on here, reminiscent of The Housemartins or Gene at their best.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart "Heart In Your Heartbreak" 7 inch

The Loves "December Boy" 7 inch

Sort-of-Christmas single from The Loves on Fortuna Pop. 'December Boy' builds on the chorus from Big Star's 'September Gurls' and chisels out a new delightlful 60s-inspired pop nugget. Is it me, or is there a cheeky hint of Band Aid in there too?!

Feedle "The Evening Wore On" CD digipak

Great album from Sheffield one-man-band artist Feedle, which slips effortlessly from glitchy electronica to ghostly melodic pop and ambient tract. It's an ambitious approach that could be cold and distant, but oozed warth and humanity. Highly recommended.

Blackbird Blackbird/Paopao "Pure/So Sorry, Girl/Liberia" 7 inch

First release from new label Double Denim featuring two acts. Blackbird Blackbird give us two song; atmopheric shoegazing and electro balladry, respectively. Paopao have a gentle techno feel with New Order-ish pop vocals.

Starlings "Weight In Gold" 7 inch

Anthemic 80's tinged electropop from new Sheffield chaps Starlings.

We Are Animal "Idolise" CD

Dancey indie rock full of buzzing guitars, big choruses, and driving drums. Nice stuff.

Cornershop "The Battle Of New Orleans EP" CD wallet

New EP from Cornershop sees them continuing their penchent for laid back, soulful 60s/70s rock as so expertly executed on their recent album Judy Sucks a Lemon for Breakfast.

YET MORE NEW STOCK - SPAMTASTIC!

Singing Adams "I Need Your Mind" 7 inch

From the ashes of The Broken Family Band comes Singing Adams and "I Need Your Mind" is a bouncing funky little number with a great rousing chorus. Very recommended.

Big Deal "Homework" 7 inch

"Homework" is such a lovely acoustic indipop song. I first heard it on Tom Ravenscroft's 6music show and just had to track it down. On new label, the aptly-named Records Records Records.

Standard Fare / One Happy Island "Standard Fare on One Happy Island" 7 inch

2011 kicks off for Standard Fare and One Happy Island with a simple proposition: Each covers one track from their counterpart’s album and each introduces a new original. It's all packaged as a 4 track EP, with glorious indiepop results!

Biff Bang Pow "The Girl Who Runs The Beat Hotel" CD digipak

Re-release of this great album on Berlin's Vollwert Records, as originally released on Creation in the late 80s.

Biff Pang Pow! "Pass The Paintbrush, Honey" CD wallet

CD re-release of the excellent debut Biff Bang Pow! album from way back in, erm, 1985 I think. This is my fave BBP album and include the excellent indiepop rush of 'Wouldn't You?' and the psych-tinged 'A Day Out With Jeremy Chester'.

A Fine Day For Sailing "Summer Blonde" 7 inch

It's a summer feel to this breezy pop tune from A Fine day For Sailing, with hints of The Beach Boys, Teenage Fanclub and The Association. Nice.

Various Artists "Scared To Dance Winter 2010/2011" fanzine

Latest fanzine from Scared To Dance. Includes inteviews with The Vaselines, Edwyn Collins, Ballboy, WeePOP!, Northern Portrait and more. Comes with a free compilation CD od christmas tunes from Where It's At is Where You Are.

Patterns "New Noise" CD wallet

Debut release from Manchester's new label Pull Yourself Together Records. Patterns explore a shoegazy, rhythmic musical territory in a similar vein to Animal Collective. Especially good is the melodic and etheriel drone of "Wrong Two Words".

Liechtenstein "Passion For Water" 7 inch

Great single from Liechtenstein. Full of their usual bubblyness "Passion for Water" marries bouncy Orange Juice rhythms with Shangri-Li vocals. Highly Recommended.

Tillmanns "A Careless Lifestyle" CD digipak

We've got a restock of this great Tillmans album on Fraction Discs of Sweden.

Bardo Pond "Just Once" 7 inch

Great acoustic psych from Bardo Pond on this new 7 from Fire Records.

Palm Springs "No Hurt Like A Broken Heart" CD

An album of beautifully melancholic indiepop from Brighton duo Palm Springs, reminiscent of The Orchids/Fieldmice though with a more cinematic palette. The arrangements are replete with stylish touches that add rather than take away from their themes of regret and sorrow. Feelings familar to all, but rarely so well articulated.

Palm Springs "The Hope That Kills You" CD

Second album from Palm Springs sees a progression from their excellent first. Musically it's a grander more uplifting feel, with wonderful orchestral pop flourishes. Highly Recommended.

What's the Pipettes new album like? I quite liked some of their singles from a few years ago but the couple I've heard off the new album didn't seem that good.
