Bands:

R.E.M.
Scoff if you will but a life without Murmur, Lifes Rich Pageant, Document, Green, Monster, New Adventures in Hi Fi, Up and Reveal is just not worth living. Around the Sun and Accelerate are going straight in the sea though, or on a bonfire at night to keep me warm.

Luke Haines
this includes all of The Auteurs, Baader Meinhoff, Black Box Recorder and the solo stuff.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs
My favouritest band in the world, I love 'em.

Books:

Maggie Cassidy (Jack Kerouac)
Don't want to do the cliched Kerouac-is-great thing but this book describes that feeling of unrequited, misplaced 'love' perfectly.

Winter Under Water (James Hopkin)
British man travels to Krakow to spend time with his married lover and discovers Poland with wide-eyed awe. He has a real skill for describing the things he sees, often very funny.

A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (Dave Eggers)
Doing exactly what it says on the tin, this is a (farly embellished) autobiography about raising his little brother after the death of both parents while trying to establish himself as a publisher. Loses its way in the middle but is a lovely book.

Sword of Honour Trilogy (Evelyn Waugh)
Aside from the fact that Waugh was a right-wing snob, he was also a brilliant writer. This is my attempt at cheating my way into taking three books (Men at Arms, Officers and Gentlemen and Unconditional Surrender) in one. Otherwise, I'd take the very funny A Handful of Dust.

What Becomes (AL Kennedy)
A collection of short stories by this great writer/comedian.

Films:

Yeah, Last Year at Marienbad, Wild Strawberries and Come and See are all great films but do I want to watch them week in week out? No. If I'm stuck on a desert island, I'll want to watch something relatively light.

American Beauty
Three Colours: White
Shaun of the Dead
Billy Liar
O Brother Where Art Thou?

Every episode of a TV Show:

Six Feet Under, which has left me severely traumatised since the first time I watched it all but I'm compelled to revisit it regularly.

Musical instrument:

Washburn D10SCE acoustic guitar.

Celebrity person:

Well, I don't know about the 'physical needs' bit but given that I've an acoustic guitar and have not included her in my back catalogue, I would very much likely to take Laura Marling with me, so that she can sing me her wonderful songs and any future lovely songs she may come up with.

Hang on, I live on a bloody desert island. All you need is a bottle of JD and a bed.

The books section prompted much agonising, and would be totally different tomorrow. This is the only situation that would ever persuade me to buy a bloody Kindle. Is this all a brilliant viral campaign from Amazon?
