I like the fact that in the Premier League the top teams have to find ways of beating the likes of Stoke as well teams playing 'attractive' football. Wouldn't want to support a team that plays that way, but I like the fact that there's such variation in styles and tactics. It's what distinguishes it from and makes it more exciting and unpredictable than so many other leagues

Silence? Forget that, happy to rub it in. England are rubbish, Italy aren't great either and the Germans will beat them!

Let's get back to watching the the best league in the world, where Emglish players take up a marginal role.

I thought the worst play acting was actually Ashley Young. On the whole it seemed a really friendly atmosphere between the two sides. Lots of genuine good natured greetings and so on. Dunno if that was because of Balotelli as few others have day job contact.

Worst performances of the night were not the 14 English players but the 2 imbeciles in the commentary box - Mowbry and Lawrenson. Unfunny, partisan and just pish, period. They should resign now before I march on the BBC demanding their heads fronting a band of angry tax payers..

I said to Kev yesterday that I’d been impressed with the Italians in their first two group games, so last night didn’t really come as a surprise. They move the ball well but I think they’re just lacking a bit of a spark in and around the box, and I’m not sure they have the pace needed to hurt Germany. Ozil and co will carry far more of a threat than we did and I’d still expect the Germans to win out.

Delighted to see Pirlo receiving the acclaim he deserves. The first time I saw him was when he’d just moved to Inter as an 18 or 19 year old. It was a pre-season friendly against Parma who fielded a full strength team with Crespo, Veron, Chiesa, Cannavaro etc, where as Inter played a team of U21’s. At that time Pirlo played in a much more advanced role behind the striker, but he was the best player on the pitch that night by a mile, just floating past defenders as if they didn’t exist and cutting the defence open with quick dribbles and clever passes. He’s been my favourite player in world football ever since and I could quite happily sit and watch him knock a ball about all day long. I had to laugh at the pundits complaing that we didn’t shut down his space or ‘get a man on him’...as if nobody’s ever thought of trying that before! It’s easy to say, very hard to do.

Can’t really fault England’s spirit but our ball retention is dreadful, which again doesn’t really come as a surprise. Wilshere will be key when he comes back, but whether we can find more like him is the question.

Well the 'dream' ends, but at least it ended without a hint of acrimony or injustice. Chris Waddle said on the BBC said that the team hadn't moved on since South Africa, but I disagree: No moaning, no red cards, no swearing at our fans!
