Tap Tap - On My Way
Tap Tap is the solo project of Thomas Sanders, frontman for choppy pop merchants Pete and the Pirates. A collection of songs written over two years while touring with the Pirates, On My Way may be slightly stripped back and toned down compared to the occasionally frantic work of the full band but the quality is still strong and Sanders’ voice remains a wonderfully soothing instrument in itself with the floating high sunshine harmonies still present. However while Neil Young may be an influence, the accent is still distinctly English and none of this mid paced quirky folk lasts much more than a blissed out three minutes. While El Gusano is practically a bossanova, even part sung in Spanish, generally there’s a soothing essence to the formula with nothing too ostentatious. The highpoint, Half Moon Street, has a timeless anthemic quality that in pushier hands would be booming out of radios from now until doomsday but here, in Sanders’ delicate mitts, it sounds wonderfully controlled. Indeed On My Way is a lovely lo-fi work that gets better with every listen. Expect its presence on your iPod to be far from brief.
