The Elephants
Take It! Tapete Records

Article written by Ged M - Oct 18, 2009

The Elephants: Take It!
The Elephants: Take It!
I wasn’t too impressed by their debut album back in 2007 for its multiplicity of pop influences and lack of a distinct focus but their second album could be by a different band. Denmark’s The Elephants have produced an album that is upbeat but reflective (the death of their bass player in 2008 might have something to do with that), full of little melodies and elegant, understated pop moments. ‘Turtle Struggles’ is slinky and optimistic, with a flavour of Apples in Stereo while the mild psychedelic buzz of ‘Molehills’ takes a slightly moodier cue from Jens Lekman. From my limited knowledge of Danish culture (gained from studying Carlsberg bottle labels) I know that the Order of the Elephant is the highest honour in that country. The Elephants’ second album hasn’t attained that level but reveals an impressive pop ability: the order of Robert Schneider maybe.
