Various Artists Collision/Detection Box Set

The EPs collected here are from an enormously entertaining series of releases from Front & Follow records; the artists involved were invited to make whatever music they pleased as long as they in some way used a collective pool of sound sources made available to all of them. The results are, in no particular order: frightening, amusing, exciting, and beautiful.
When considered as a whole, given the number of artists and groups taking part, ‘Collision/Detection’ is an album of unlikely consistency of quality. Every contribution is worthy of its place and exists as a distinct enclosed entity while adding to the rich and rewarding mix that they represent when taken as a whole. This box set encompasses the clanking unease of The Lord, the rapid break mutations of West Norwood Cassette Library, the troubling horror ambience of BLK TAG, the swaying gloom of Doomed Bird of Providence, and the moving and remarkable machine-folk of Kemper Norton. All these varied elements add up to a widely contrasting but oddly cohesive statement. The uniting factor being the inventiveness and genius of all involved.
An extraordinary box of remarkable music, ‘Collection/Detection’ is a gift from Front & Follow records to those with curious ears and open minds. It is a rare achievement: an album as conceptually sound as it is entertaining, with little compromise in either direction.
