Demo Review

Beat the Radar
demo

Article written by Will B - Feb 6, 2008

Lancaster's Beat the Radar manage to combine grungey dynamism with Sonic Youth-esque guitars and poppy melodies to surprisingly good effect on the twin efforts heard here. 'By the Sea' sweeps in with chiming guitar tones and fragile vocals before the fuzz pedals are stomped upon and career into the chorus. There's a good level of musicianship on show, with well thought out arrangements and song structure elevating them above the average band and pointing to the potential they have. The wavering vocals remind me of early Idlewild and whilst not particularly strong, they work extremely well in the context of the band's style of music. ‘Misunderstood What You Said’ follows in a similar vein and reinforces my view that Beat the Radar have the potential to go far.
