The Ruskins Slow Down Jessica demo6 for 5

The Ruskins sent us a 3-track CD, but it refused to play. So, off I went to their myspace page, where I spied the same 3 tracks. Amongst their influences, The Ruskins list Kings of Leon, The Streets, The Cribs, The Pogues, Johnny Cash, Jamie T, Nirvana, The Dubliners, The White Stripes and Chas’n’Dave.
Unfortunately The Ruskins’ myspace page seems also cursed with technical problems, and I only ended up hearing track 1 – ‘Slow Down Jessica’. I managed to get this to play twice. The other tracks were unavailable. So I tried various media, including video on Youtube and chat on Facebook, in order to get a better view of the band.
I would have been happier had ‘Slow Down Jessica’ also been unavailable, being, as I am, too long in the tooth for ‘ladrock’. Cheeky, uber-confident, skiffly, slap’n’tickly ladrock at that. It seems that the (ahem) great and the good – XFM, NME, Radio 1 - have taken The Ruskins to their hearts, so this utterly charmless example of young Great Britain 2009 have a sporting chance to ‘make it’. I’m sure they and all their mates will have a laugh in the process, and the legend ‘less is more’ will be proven true again. Sigh.
