Tapesty Goes West in August - a festival with some history

Article written by
Jun 17, 2007.

Tapestry Goes West 2007, “a medieval rock festival”, takes place at Margam Park, Port Talbot, Wales, SA13 2TH on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 August. Cost is £50 inc camping, available online at www.wegottickets.com

Bands confirmed so far include; Alan Tyler, The Cherrybombers, The Children, Chrome Hoof, Circulus, The Clientele, The Dirty Feel, The Dexateens, Diagonal, The Duke Spirit, Duotard , Hot Breath Karaoke, Hot Puppies, The Lea Shores, Leafhound, Los Chicos, Mystery Meat, Pete Molinari, Pink Grease, Piney Gir, The Poppies, Radio Luxembourg, Redlands Palomino Company, The Research, The Rubbishmen, Sannidei, Seasick Steve, The Swankers, Threatmantics, Tokyo Dragons The Wolf People……

This is the roaming arm of London’s Tapestry Club, travelling West and back in time. After years among the cowboys of Cornwall, last year Tapestry Goes West galloped off to pastures medieval in Wales to great acclaim. Tapestry 2007 continues where last year left off. As well as the eclectic mix of bands there will be a medieval village, mead a-plenty and jousting from Europe's premier team of brave horsemen, The Knights of Arkley. Plus a lords and Ladies football tournament organized by Neil Stilwell (ex Leyton Orient).

The Guardian calls it 'very strange and beautiful' while Emily Eavis told Time Out: 'I'd go for one of the smaller, more interesting ones like Green Man or Tapestry Goes West...'
SXP-ers who've been in previous years report an intimate and beautifully organised festival with much dressing up, drinking and fine sounds. Those interested in wassailing this August should check out the website.
