This album is that rare thing – one without any redeeming features. With vocals styles ranging from Letting Off The Happiness era Bright Eyes to Nickelback and musical styles veering from country and western to the aforementioned Nickelbackesque dirge, there isn’t even one song above mediocrity.
If the line “you slipped your fingers down my throat, pulled out the things you liked the most” is used as an analogy for Yes Sir, then David Judson Clemmons would remain intact…nothing would be removed from his body. The record, the carpenter’s 10th in one form or another, is described as being packed with energy, sunshine and rain. Well, one out of three ain’t bad for there is little to lift this record out of the doom and gloom.
Yes Sir is also unaided by some very clumsy lyricism throughout: “stores sell lots of stuff we can’t afford, oh, b-b-but we really need it, so we buy it anyway” from Someday and “everything worked like it should, yeah, like on that show the one with that doctor” from Silicone City to name but two. If someone you know asks you to listen to this the response should be just two simple words: no sir.
